Dreaming of a Summer Metamorphosis: Master Bedroom Part I

*

*
Hello my friends! I hope you're having a marvelous Monday!
*
Ohhh my...it's been a busy week at my place! Summer is here and I am in the mood for a little change!
*
Last week I posted about wanting to "lighten" up my master bedroom...changing out its winter frocks for a new, fresh, summery dress! If you would like to see that post...you can click HERE.
*
Changing out my home's decor with the seasonal changes is often more of a necessity than mere pleasure. (Okay, who am I trying to kid here...I love to change my home's decor with the different seasons! I love to decorate! Hehe!) Our master bedroom is always outfitted in really warm, heavy bedding during the cold wintery months...but the temperatures are warming and it's time for a change! Time to change the dark, wintery colors and lighten things up...and it's time to put away winter's heavy bed linens!!!
*
Soooo...I started planning! Above you will see an idea board that I created for my master bedroom's new summer look! I found a duvet cover at Pottery Barn called "Painterly Paisley"...that I just fell in love with! I ordered it and it's here!
*
I am soooo ready to change my master bedroom's decor!!!
*
Winter Frocks...The "BEFORE"

*
As you can see...I used deep, rich chocolatey browns with seaside blue for the color scheme. The walls are antique gold...a faux paint to resemble an "Old World" Tuscan plaster. The bedding is from JC Penneys...and is very heavy...sooo perfect for those long, cold wintery nights in Colorado!
*
Antique Cabinets
*
I didn't mention this in my last post but the cabinets to either side of the bed came from my in-law's home. My mother-in-law took them out of their home when they remodeled. We think that they were probably made in the early 1900's...I love them and they are great for extra storage! I was looking for something different than the usual bedside tables. Lately, I have debated whether or not to keep them here...what do you think? If I do decide to keep them...I have considered adding fabric behind the glass doors...just to cover my mess! Hehe! I would love to hear your opinions!
*
Now...for the new summery dress...
*
The "AFTER"

*
TaaaDaaa! Such a change...don't you think?
*
Earlier I told you that its been a busy week for me! I spent a couple of days doing that dreaded deep cleaning! YUK!!! But...one can't put on a brand new dress without cleaning up first...right? Hehe!
*
Phase I:
*
I have much more that I would like to do in this room but this is what I've done so far...
*
1) New Drapes. I changed the heavy taffeta, seaside blue draperies behind the bed to a soft gold sheer drapes. These match the soft gold sheers that I have hung in front of the wall columns in my bedroom. You would have to visit the link that I included at the beginning of this post to see that. Adding the soft gold sheers gives the room more of a monochromatic color scheme...and I'm liking that!!!
*
2) New bed linens.
*
"BEFORE"

*
"AFTER"

*
"Painterly Paisley" from Pottery Barn
*
I needed a new duvet for my summer down comforter and when I seen this pretty duvet at Pottery Barn...it was instant love! It met all the criteria for my summer's decor plan! The paisley pattern in soft gold, taupe, and gray...remind me a bit of seashells! I love the soft colors...so pretty on that white background! Perfect!!! I ordered the two matching euro shams as well.
*
"Coventry" Matlasse Coverlet...
*
I found this gorgeous white matlasse coverlet and matching shams at Bed, Bath, and Beyond a few weeks ago. It was on their clearance shelf...marked down to just $29.99 because it had been used for display. Yeeehawww!!! It's white...gorgeous...lightweight...and just perfect for our summer bed!!!
*

*

*
I'm in love with this new bedding! I am also really liking the soft gold sheer drapery behind the bed as well! Between the new bed linens and the new drapes...the room has really "lightened" up!!!
*

*
Phase II...The Accessories
*
Now I'm ready to accessorize! I have changed out the art that sits above the antique cabinets....and I added a white ironstone pitcher...just getting a feel for which direction that I want to go! This is one stage of decor that I really enjoy...accessorizing!!!
*
So stay tuned for Phase II...there is more to come!!!
*
*

I am joining these two lovely parties today...

Great makeover - love the colors you chose. The room seems to glow with light. I was interested in seeing what people said about the beautiful pieces on each side of the bed. They are gorgeous and definitely "keepers". It might be interesting to see what it would look like with a bed height piece on each side. You might like it beter....or not. I always like to try different possibilities - sometimes I keep them, sometimes I don't. Anyway, can't wait to see scene 2! Lovely job! Linda

I love the rich, warm colors you had in the room, but WOW, the light colors are so light and airy!!! I think, because the rest of the room looks so light and refreshing, it would look great to put some light sheer fabric inside the cabinets, like you mentioned! It would lighten it all up even more and be SO removable if you decided you did not like it, or wanted to change it for winter with the warmer look! Of course I am a big fan of hiding clutter!!! :-) Lovely, lovely room!!!!

I totally love the transformation in that room... light light light, I will always go for light and white colors... your room looks gorgeous now.... thanks for sharing it with us on "Show Off Your Cottage Monday"

Oh Chari, I love the old and I love the new! Both beautiful but the summer change is certainly light! I can just see me on a warm summer day flopping down on that beautiful white bed:) Cool and refreshing!

Get out the checkbook, I am inspired to make a change in my bedroom:) It is RED and GOLD and I think it could use a lighten up too. I will tell my Honey to blame it on you:) hehe!

Have a blessed day my friend! HUGS!

Chari, it is beautiful! Love the pattern and colors you chose. Looks very light and airy for the summer. A suggestion ~ I would move the cabinets and put something else on either side of the bed as side tables. That would further lighten up the look and feel. Just my 2c! :-)

I'd love to climb in that bed right now and snooze a bit.

Hope you have a blessed week!

xoxo

Hi, I like your bedroom re-do for the summer. Looks nice and airy!
I for one like the cabinets next to the bed. You're right-they are different. perhaps maybe a light lacy fabric in the doors and then maybe not all the way up, would help conceal the clutter. Found through Gails Feature Followers Friday
