Update on my Faux Fireplace Project...
*

*
Some of you have been following the progress of my faux fireplace project, but for those who haven't...let me give you a "quick catch-up"!
*
I have wanted a fireplace in my living room for the longest time! The photo above is an "inspiration photo"...I found it quite some time ago on the internet and fell in love with this beautiful fireplace the moment I laid eyes on it! Isn't it gorgeous? I love the beautiful lines and rich ornate detailing of this fireplace mantel!!! Ohhh...and it looks simply dreamy against those beautiful olive green walls! I love everything about this photo...from the fabulous fireplace right down to the stack of old books that are being used for a little table!
*
This is the "ambiance" that I would love to reproduce in my living room!!!

My Living Room....

*
A photo of my living room.

This is what my living room looked like before adding the faux fireplace. If you would like to see all the "how to's"...each step of the metamorphosis...you can click HERE.

My New Fireplace Mantel...

*
Taaa Daaa! My new faux fireplace!
*
I would love to have a real fireplace but it just isn't feasible at this time...so the next best thing...a faux fireplace! My goal was to make this faux fireplace look as "real" as possible! This is where I am...to date...on the project. There is still so much that I would like to do...like creating a tile surround for the mantle.

Stay tuned for further updates...hopefully I'll have something new to share with you for this upcoming Metamorphosis Monday!
*

*

I am just thrilled with my new mantel!

I love the rich detailing...and the cherry finish is gorgeous! I love, love, LOVE how the rich tone of the cherry finish looks against the olive green walls! And...I love the beautiful ornate scrolls...all the wood carvings...and ohhh...those pedistals!!! I guess that you can tell...I am in love!!! Hehe!

This is the rich and regal ambiance that I had hoped to achieve...remember my "inspiration" photo? I have a ways to go but I think I'm on the right track...what do you think?
*
My New Mantle...A Thrifty Find!
*
Believe it or not...I found this fabulous mantel at JC Penneys! It was originally priced at $800.00 but was on sale for 50% off...making it just $399.00! I also had a coupon for free shipping to boot! Yeeeehawww!!!
*

My Newest "Thrifty" Treasure Find...

I Love Craigslist...

Well...to make a long story short...since I now have a faux fireplace, I have had to do a bit of furniture rearrangement. I had a sofa and love seat in this area of my living room (as seen in the first photo). I really was never quite happy with this situation since the sofa and love seat are such big pieces...they really just "shrunk" the size of this already narrow room. So I decided to move the sofa to the guest room upstairs and just keep the love seat. Now...in my decorator's "mind's eye"...I could just see a couple of smaller accent chairs...flanking each side of the fireplace! I'm tellin' ya what...I am so blessed because as soon as I had thought this...I found a couple of accent chairs on Craigslist!
*
I was able to pick the pair up for $70. They really are in perfect condition!!! I was so pleased!!!
*

*
Voila! One of the new accent chairs beside the fireplace! They are perfect!!! However, as much as I love these little chairs...I think I am going to give them a "facelift"! I'm thinking a different finish and fabric! Got any ideas? I would love to hear them!!!
*
~~~~~~~~~~~
*
Well my friends...thank you so much for stopping by today! Please leave me a comment and let me know that you were here...I would love to visit with you!
Love ya'll,
Chari
Oh the fireplace is looking just gorgeous. I love it. I can't wait to see what you do to finish it off. The chairs are stunning. I think I would love to see the chairs with the wood dark like the fireplace and the fabric a light color. I love that look. I know you will pick out the perfect thing. Hugs, Marty
Oh, your mantle is just gorgeous and I love the craig's list chairs. I know what you mean about your sofa being too big for the room. We have that going on. I'm searching for just the right replacement.
Your home looks very, very lovely :)
I absolutely love your new chairs. I would have bought those in a minute! Things are quiet here - Bob has gone to take care of his mother as she is not doing well and in the hospital. They were going to move her into assisted care this weekend, but now they aren't sure but she may have to go to a nursing home. Time will tell. Beautiful day out today. Take care, Sally
Oh Chari, those chairs look like they were meant for that area. The colors match the carpet so perfectly too. Beautiful! What a lucky find! Fabulous fireplace mantel, so pretty!
Thanks for stopping by. I had so much fun in London, love the city! I have a little post about it before tablescaping but I'll do a big one for Sightseeing Sat. Of course it was a pleasure trip. All of my trips are for pleasure since I don't work, LOL!
I hate that the best pieces were the ones broken on the china set. It makes me sick learning about the value. The gravy boat with attached underplate came broken and it is priced at $109.95 on Replacements.com. The covered vegetable's cover is broken and and the value on replacements is $159.95. There were a lot more broken like 3 cream soup cups, etc. Sorry for the whining, lol! I am actually still happy....Christine
Absolutely LOVE your mantle!!
And your chairs are great sitting there.
Maybe a darker wood, or even black.
Well, I'm rambling as i try to think of how to thank you for your timely visit, and sweet words.
It always encourages me to have you come by.
Your faux fireplace is fantabulous!!! You are so very talented. Your blog is beautiful and your ideas are fresh, creative, and clever. I'm going to sign up to follow you as soon as I see what else you have going on around here. I see a lot of things that you might want to link to my Wednesday party next week -- the boardwalk bragfest. No need to be humble about a project you've worked so hard on. Thank you for all the wonderful ideas!
Hi Chari! Thanks for your comment on my post, and yes -- Good dries clear! :-) It's actually sort of a gel consistency and it comes out of the tube clear, too.
We recently bought an old mantle at a flea market to "create" a fireplace -- right now, it's alone on the wall so I'm looking forward to seeing what you do so I can make mine look more real (I actually like the black inset -- ours has no inset so you just see the wall. I think I see a sheet of plywood and black paint in my near future. :-) And the CHAIRS! Love them. Looks like the wood has some lovely tones so I would leave it (for all the times I say I'm going to paint wood, I can never actually bring myself to do it!). A new fabric might be nice...maybe a neutral linen so you can make them "go" with anything...but I think it also looks like the fabric that's one them is in good shape. Great thrifting!! :-)
Chari,
I love, love, love your fireplace mantel. Even if you don't have any actual fireplace to go with it. I wish I had a beautiful wood mantel like that for mine. Maybe someday. I'll just drool over yours. Can't wait to see how you dress it up.
And I love the chairs you got on Craigslist. Great deal!!!
Take care & I'll talk to you later.
How beautiful everything is looking so far! Love your gorg-o faux fireplace mantle and those chairs - who doesn't love craigslist?
I can see them a darker color wood, sort of like your fireplace (which was a total deal, by the way) with a lighter toned fabric - something olive-y, cream with maybe some black in it to help ground it some - I really sound like I know what I'm talking about huh? I'm sure you'll do a great job no matter what you do and I can't wait to see it!
Have a good one friend -
If you build it, they will come. Can I sit in one of those soon to be even lovelier chairs near your faux fireplace?
I bet you that it "warms" the room right up!
Hi Chari
I saw your comment on Laura's blog (Shorehouse Chic) so i wanted to come over and look at your faux fireplace. It looks so beautiful! I've also wanted a fireplace in my house but settled for one of the pieces that Home Depot sells that is a heater/ fake burning wood insert that plugs in. It's nice but not as spectacular as yours!
My son and Daughter-In-Law live in Colorado ...love your state!
Lenore said...
Your new faux fireplace is simply beautiful, Chari......and how lucky were you with the price!!!!
Then the side chairs are also just right for your room....altogether FAB!
Ok I see your off like a speeding rocket with your projects again!! I love the fireplace and can't wait to see how you accessorize it- you are so good at that sort of thing!! The chairs are such a great deal too and look perfect in your room!! Craigs list doesn't work too well in little towns like ours but gosh I wish it did!!
I was so pooped today - yesterday I fixed a tea luncheon for one of my hospice people. Brought all the dishes,linens and made the food- everyone had a great time but it was all I could do to go fix super when I got back. Today felt the same but needed to wash a white tree that I had picked up at a thrift store. Took it out and sprayed her down and before I knew it I had my can of paint out and painted 3 different pieces of furniture!!! It's funny how sometimes if I just push it works- other times I just crash more! Anyways had fun!
I think it was a good thing I painted today as it sounds like the cold and snow is on it's way again!
Hi Chari,
Thanks for stopping by Carolina Panache. As usual I've been up to my eyeballs in busy! I haven't been by to visit for a while so I thought I would pop over today. I love the look of your site. It's been changed since I last visited.
Gotta tell you that I LOVE your fireplace mantel. It's just the perfect thing for Christmas. You will have so much fun decorating your mantel. The options are endless!!! And those chairs are wonderful. I also love the pretty shade of green in your living room. I have a soft mossy green in my family room and sunroom. Green is such a neutral color it can go with anything. I believe green must be God's favorite color. He used so much of it when creating this world!
I'm doing a post on Christmas mantels today. Lots of inspiration pictures to get your ideas going. Stop by for a visit.
Warmly,
Your friend,
How wonderful to fulfill your inspiration with this beauty. It looks so warm and cozy. A darker finish on the chairs might look good with the dark fireplace. Regardless, the chairs and fireplace look great.
I don't have a mantle in our new cottage....I am making Andrew build one for me to use at Christmas. I just can't have Christmas without a mantle. I also redid my master bath with $100. It was my own $100 challenge. I'll be posting it next week.....I am in love with it....
