Hello my friends...welcome to "Show & Tell" Friday!
*
This fabulous fun filled Friday event is hosted by Kelli over at There Is No Place Like Home. Please pay Kelli a visit...you'll want to see what she has for "Show & Tell" today...also while you're there...you can check out all of the other "Show & Tell" Friday participants....
*
But first....I have a craft project that I would like to "Show & Tell" about today!
*
My New Seashell Dishes...
*
Some of you may remember that I recently purchased a new set of dishes...I did a post about it and if you'd like to check it out...just click HERE.
*
I just love these pretty seashell dishes! They are called "Water" from JC Penneys. I just finished a tablescape using these dishes, however I missed the deadline for Susan's "Tablescape Thursday" today...so stayed tuned...I'll show my "Water" tablescape next Thursday!
A Craft Project....Seashell Candles!
*
I love crafting!!! When I purchased my new "Water" dinnerware, Penneys had a set of three "Seashell" pillar candles that coordinate with the set...but they were $49.99! Eeeekkks!!! Sorry, I just can't see spending $50 on three candles...so I decided to make my own!
*
Here is a photo of the finished product...
(no peeking at my tablescape now! Hehe!)
*
How To Make a Seashell Pillar Candle
Materials Needed:
Pillar Candle (any size or color of your choice. I used a 6" white candle) Cost...$1.88
Decor Sand (I found this at Walmart...it's called sand but really the product is made up of crushed seashells...it's really sparkley and pretty!) Cost...$2.97
Elmers glue
Paint brush
Seashells (I already had a big ol' bag of shells so didn't have to buy any!)
Glue gun and glue (I used a "hot" glue gun...a "cold" glue gun would have worked much better...I have a big ol' blister on my thumb to prove that! Eeekss!)
*
Step One...
*
I used the decor sand for a base coat on the candle. With a paint brush and Elmers glue...brush on a nice thick coat of Elmers glue onto the candle. I only covered about 1/3 of the candle but you can cover as much of the candle as you would like.
*
Take the decor sand and sprinkle over the wet coat of Elmers glue.
*
Let this dry completely before moving on to the next step!
*
Step Two...
Choose the shells that you would like to use. I chose all different kinds of shells...different colors and different sizes.
With the glue gun, begin to glue shells onto the sand base in a random pattern.
And...Voila!...there you have it!
This is really such an easy craft project and so much fun (although I'm still nursing that big ol' blister on my thumb...Hehe!)
JC Penneys seashell pillar candles...$49.99
My version...
2 seashell pillar candles...$4.85
Thank you so much for stopping by today! I just love when you come by for a visit...please leave me a comment and let me know that you were here!
And remember...stay tuned for my "Water" tablescape!!! wink...
Happy "Show & Tell" Friday!!!
Love ya'll,
Chari

PS I'm working on my FYR post right now. Blogger has been acting up....:)
Very clever of you! And beautiful, too. I had no idea that you could get crushed shell "sand".
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip!
What a great awesome project, Chari. It came out beautifully....Christine
ReplyDeleteYou are brilliant! (You know I love those dishes!) and those candles are perfect!!!
ReplyDelete:)
You clever girl you these are gorgeous! I can't get near a glue gun without burning myself either.. been missing you, but we are doing really good and we actually went with the kids and their parents to a park here that is filled with grand oak trees and nature.. so beautiful. Sandwiches picked up from our favorite bakery and some bags of chips and cookies and we had a very fun picnic. Hugh is walking with a cane now and really doing well. Thank-you so much for your prayers and I am so excited for you and your trip to Texas.. Love you Sis, Cindy
ReplyDeleteHi Chari,
ReplyDeleteThought I would pop in and see what you have been up to.
I don't always get the time to blog or read blogs that I want to unless I make time!
Oh I love the sea shell dishes, those look fun, I will look forward to your fun tablescape.
The candles are a fun project.
I just love sea shells, have done many a craft project with them over the years too.
Now you are making me want to craft! lol Maybe this evening I can work on something while the TV is on.
Have a great day!
Hugs, Linda Q
Hello Dear Friend! Ooo! I love your candles!! That's my kind of craft project! I can't wait to see your tablescape! You are the queen of tablescape centerpieces! love ya Chari! Lauralu :)
ReplyDeleteChari, those are gorgeous! You are so smart to be able to come home and make your own. Thanks for sharing the instructions. (I never use a glue gun that I don't burn myself-what can I say, I'm sooo uncoordinated!) laurie
ReplyDeleteGreat show & tell Chari! I love how your candles turned out & love the price even more. Sorry about your blister. The price we pay to save a few bucks. But looking at the final product, I'm sure it was all worth it. I may have to make me some of these candles as well as I have lots of shells. But then I haven't used a glue gun in years. Can't wait to see your tablescape next week.
ReplyDeleteKim
Look at you! Those turned out so pretty. Just the kind of thing you'd find in a fancy schmancy store. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great tutorial, Chari. I will make these for my bedroom, pronto!
ReplyDeleteIt's always nice to see you at my place. You're just the sweetest!
Hi Chari,
ReplyDeleteHow are you my friend? I just love the candles, how clever of you to figure this out and do it at such a budget price. I just can't wait to see that pretty tablescape! Those dishes are so gorgeous! I just went to the Dr. and had a half inch thorn cut out of my thumb. I got a little carried away with the weeding. I hope your thumb is feeling beter soon. I did not know there were cold glue guns, I will have to check that out as well. Have you got plans for the week-end? We will probably be hanging out and doing chores. Hugs to you, Cindy
I love your candles! They do go great with the new dishes. I love your resourcefulness!
ReplyDeleteChari, I like that project! It is simple and beautiful! I love those candles!
ReplyDeleteHi Chari!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun project! They turned out so cute too! I have a feeling we'll be seeing them again in that upcoming tablescape!!
Can't wait!
Sorry you got an Ouchie on your finger! That bad ole glue gun!!!
(((Hugs))), Sherri:)

Amazing...simply amazing. You really gave a great tutorial here, and I will use it....we live on the coast and I have a dining room that is done in 'nautical'...the shell idea will be perfect.
ReplyDeleteMy show n tell is decades old toys. Come on over if you can find time.
Happy Friday.
What a creative idea! I'll try this one to.
ReplyDeleteCindy
Wow, what a wonderful show & tell. They are so cute. I sometimes do a shell centerpiece in the summer. This I like much better. One candle would look great on a plate with some other shells.
ReplyDeleteMama Bear
Oh Chari - they turned out beautifully! I'm surprised you can use hot glue on a candle! I would've thought it would just melt away.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see your new shell tablescape next week! For now, I have to go back in time on your blog and check out the post on the dishes.
Thank you for your very sweet words on my very first Show and Tell. And yes, I made the table skirt. I am ready to make another - something maybe a little more vintagey looking. I'm past the BLACK! But it was fun using my new sewing machine on it.
For some reason, I've really gotten back into "craft" mode. I wonder if it's the part of me that says "OK, your kids are grown up - where's the grandchildren?" DO you think so? LOL
Have a wonderful day my friend! You sure made me smile!
Nice dishes. I am a dish lover :o)
ReplyDeleteGreat, unique job on the candles.
Susan
The shell dishes are a great design. I've wanted shell plates for a long time, but am still hoping to find some.
ReplyDeleteThe candle enhancement with the shells is really wonderful. Thanks for the how-to instructions.
WOW! Thanks for sharing the how, and how easy!!
ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea....and $50.00 for candles...uh, yep, I would have tried something else too! I don't have as many shells, so I probably would have to buy some...they just don't wash up on the AZ beaches...go figure!!!!
ReplyDeleteShells always remind me of summer...
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the how-to and the how-easy.
Great job, they look wonderful and for a lot less $$! (o:
ReplyDeleteThose candles turned out really nice. I like that if you burn the candles you can reuse the shells.
ReplyDeleteWow those are gorgeous. So simple and so elegant. Thanks for the instructions on how to do it too!
ReplyDeleteWell, darn it girlfriend, that is just toooooo clever! I'll bet they're much cuter than the ones at Penney's anyway! Good for you....what a lovely addition to your tablescapes.........
ReplyDeleteI'm impressed. And, thank you for the tutorial. Oh,how I LOVE a tutorial!
Hugs,
Spencer
The candles are beautiful. What a great post! Thanks for sharing the "how to" for the candles.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful candle! Thanks for the lesson, I'll have to try this (with a cold glue gun!!) Sorry about your thumb!
ReplyDeleteKatherine
Thanks for the idea. I like seashells for a summery look, and I have collections of them, too, so this is something practical I can try. I like the deco sand!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful job and so beautiful! Perfect for summer! Happy June to you. :0)
ReplyDelete~Kelli
I am going to have to try this! Love it!
