Show & Tell Friday!

It's "Show & Tell" Friday...

Hello my friends...welcome to "Show & Tell" Friday!!!

Ohhh my...we all just love Fridays...don't we? TGIF!!! I especially love Fridays because it's time for "Show & Tell" hosted by
Kelli over at There Is No Place Like Home! Thank you Kelli...for hosting this fabulous Friday event!!! If you haven't ever been over to Kelli's place before...please go! Kelli has a delightful blog!!! While you're there, you can take a peek at all of Friday's "Show & Tell" participants!!!

I have a couple of items that I would like to submit for "Show & Tell" Friday! As many of you know, my husband and I are in the process of taking care of his parent's estate. We have been so blessed to inherit so many family heirlooms and keepsakes!!!

Family Heirlooms & Keepsakes
Music Boxes...

The two items that I am going to share with you today belonged to my husband's mother Mary Alice! Each is a

Antique French Music Box...

Isn't this little music box simply exquisite? It's very old, just how old I'm not sure. My husband seems to think that it came from his Grandma Lundberg's side of the family!

It's made of a very thin brass and measures about 5 in. across. It has a little compartment when you lift the lid (seen in the photo below). The inside compartment consists of a rough looking silver metal...I'm not sure what it is. The compartment itself is fairly shallow...however it would be perfect for jewelry or other small keepsakes!

What I love most about this pretty little music box is the porcelain inset on the lid! Just look at the beautiful picture of the French man in his finest clothing! The scene seems to be set in a garden! I'm just fascinated by the picture!!!

The music box still works...it has a few rough places in the music piece that it plays. I'm sure it needs a good cleaning!

It's "A Bunny Filled Christmas" Music Box...

I just adore this little Christmas Bunny music box!!! It's much newer than the previous music box and is made by Hallmark.

It's made of a ceramic...and stands about 5 in. tall. Isn't it darling? I just love the little bunny with his bright red scarf blowing in the wind...and look at his traveling companion...a sweet little mouse in a pretty green sweater! They're sure having fun sledding over the snow!!!

The music box plays "Jingle Bells"!

Well my friends...thank you so much for coming by today and letting me share with you some of our family heirloom keepsakes!!!

I adore our visits...please leave a comment and let me know that you were here! I'd love to come by for a visit!!!

Happy "Show & Tell" Friday!

Love ya'll,
Chari

  2. I love old music boxes, especially ones with a story and plenty of History. To me that is the greatest treasure of all, the story and the love connected to it.
The first one kinda looks like one my Granny had that she kept her loose face powder in. I don't think that is what it was made for, but that was what Granny used it for.

  11. The music box is wonderful, my Gram used to keep face powder and a puff in the compartment (just like Mollys') so maybe that's what it was used for.

Thanks for sharing, I'll be back!

  12. Good Mornin' Chari! Ooh! Bet ya didn't know I collect those vintage musical powder boxes! I had about 5 of them all bought on ebay! Then I got into one of those downsizing moods! You know, "what in the world will my two boys do with these when I'm gone!" so I started giving them away...my eldest son's girlfriend got one, my great neices got one and so on....but I kept one! Lately I've been looking on ebay again to restart my collection! Yours is precious! and even more so because of the memories! And I just love that adorable christmas music box! Hope you have a blessed day and weekend! Lauralu :)

  16. Hi Chari,
Your music box is so pretty! Would you believe I actually have something very similiar to it? It was my Grandmas and it's a plain powder Blue but it looks the same otherwise. I had never seen another one like it. How neat.

I hope you have a wonderful and blessed weekend my friend.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to join in with you for the new meme. I can't think of another thing new to post. I am going to join Barb's outdoor meme but that's not until the
    5th of May.
Thanks for coming up with the idea. You're so clever! ~Melissa :)

  21. Hello Chari, I'm back! Oh that is interesting you found them on Ebay. I'll have to take a look.

My allergies are something else right now. Here's the funny thing about them. I never had allegies until the last three years or so.
They do run very strong in my family though. Both of my younger sisters have them much worse than I do.
My nose is so raw right now I have cracks on it. Gross I know... They will pass very soon when all this pollen blows away. Thanks for praying for me.

Can do me a favor and pay a visit to a new sweet blogger friend named Sherri?
Her blog name is called "Sharing With Sherri" and she is so kind and new at this. I know she would love to hear from you.
She's on my blogroll if you have time.

I will try to figure out Sunday's posting and get help from Alex. It will be fun!

Have a good weekend my friend.
    ~Melissa :)

  26. I love music boxes, and yours are wonderful. I think I have one like the antique one somewhere, and I know it belonged to my grandmother, so it's old. I'll have to hunt for it. That newer Christmas one is just so cute! Looking forward to the Sunday post! laurie

  28. Chari,
That music box is so unusual, next time the Antiques Road Show comes to town you should have it looked at. Are there any markings on the bottom? The inside is very unusual; you can tell it is a very fine piece. Thanks for sharing this, it is interesting.

  33. I love music boxes -- especially love your old one. But the bunny one is just too cute! There is something about the music that is played on a music box . . .

  34. girl you make me laugh, I hope I remember all your questions! The tall pitcher is fabulous, it has the wheat pattern around the top and a raised mark on the bottom but I can't read it unless I can find my large magnifying glass! It was in a beautiful antique shop and marked 23.00, I had to put on glasses and keep looking at the price, I couldn't believe it was that cheap! Now the beeskeps are twine and decorations, I kinda collect them too LOL! I'm not sure if your pitcher is jadeite, I thought jadeite was kind of transparent milky looking, but I'm not an expert on it. My green stuff is pottery material, like yellowware in a green color. Did I remember everything? I'm so glad I inspired you to collect ironstone, you are the second bloggy friend to tll me that this wek! I was inspired by an article in a country magazine, and was instantly hooked and started right away searching! It was probably 8 years ago and I know what and where my first piece was! have a great weekend sweetie! xoxox
