Christmas Past
December 21, 2009
*

*
Hello my friends...Merry Christmas!!!
*
I'm so happy that you stopped by today for a visit! I just wanted to wish each and every one of you...my dear sweet friends...a Merry Christmas!!! I pray that you and your families are filled to overflowing with the peace, joy, and love of God this Christmas season!!!
*
Ohhh my...I had so many big plans for Christmas this year! I have been busy, busy...but I think I have run out of time to do some of the things that I was hoping to accomplish. For instance, I had three different Christmas tablescapes planned, however I have only been able to get one of them done! Where does all the time go to? Anyway, I would like to share with you, the one Christmas tablescape that I was able to finish! Enjoy!!!
*
A Christmas in the Woodlands

*
We are having a quiet, informal Christmas this year. It will just be my husband and I and the two children. I have planned an informal dinner for the four of us on Christmas day in our dining room...something warm and inviting...fun and full of Christmas magic!
*

*
A "Woodlands Christmas" Place Setting
*
I found these beautiful Christmas plates on ebay several months ago for just $12.49 for the set of four! It was love at first sight!!! These beautiful salad/dessert plates are called "Winter Greetings" and are manufactured by Lenox. Ohhh...just look at those sweet little chickadees! I decided to pair the Christmas salad/dessert plate with a solid red dinner plate...simple...informal!
*
The amber colored goblets come from Walmart. I like how they pick up the amber tones on the Christmas plate!
*

*

*
The Table Linens
*
I love my new Christmas placemats! The black, red, and green colors are perfect with this Woodlands Christmas tablescape! I found them at the Dollar Tree...for just $1 each! I had hoped to find red and green plaid dinner napkins but I just ran out of time...so I used the solid red napkins that I already had!
*

*
A "Christmas in the Woodlands" Centerpiece
*
Ohhh...I had so much fun putting this table centerpiece together!
*

*
A Woodlands Birdhouse
*
I thought this pretty black birdhouse would be a great focal point for my "Woodlands Christmas" centerpiece! You know...those sweet little Christmas chickadees needed a home!

I used pine greenery and sprigs of red berries at the base of the birdhouse and scattered a few pinecones into the mix. I then added two decorative iron candleholders with pillar candles to each side of the birdhouse. The pillar candles were a little plain so I added a bit of twine, greenery, red berries, and a small pinecone for decoration.
*
and we can't have a Christmas Woodlands without a bird's nest...
*
I added a little bird's nest at the base of the birdhouse...it just seemed right! Hehe! A little cast iron bird is resting upon the nest.
*

*
The Christmas Birds of the Woodlands
*
Besides the little chickadees and the white bird in the nest...a couple of other birds came to visit! Ohhh my...they sure are plump little creatures! Hehe! I found two pretty wooden black birds at Hobby Lobby this past summer. I just loved the ornate cut-work design in the sides of them. If you look real close, you will see that the cut-work pattern is holly leaves and berries! Sooo pretty!!! These precious little guys were all black but I decided to touch up the holly leaves and berries with a little green and red acrylic paint so that the pattern would show up a little better.
*

*
Christmas Trees...A Little Woodlands Magic
*
I found these two beautiful red and gold glittery Christmas trees at the Goodwill a few weeks ago...they were only .50 each!

They bring a certain Christmas magic to our Woodlands...don't you think?
*

*
A Christmas in the Woodlands...Buffet

*
I thought I would include a couple of photos of the Christmas decor on my dining room buffet.
*

*
Ohhh look...and here is the Woodlands Santa!
*
I decided to use my Woodlands Santa in the dining room this year. And believe it or not...this is where the entire "Woodlands Christmas" theme began! We just had to have a Christmas Woodlands for Santa!!!

I started collecting Santas a few years ago...I don't have many but this one is my favorite!!! I just love his burgandy cordoroy coat with the all that fur trim! He has a tall staff in his hand that has a bit of pine greenery mingled into the top of the staff...and yes...another sweet Christmas bird...a Christmas cardinal! Santa is carrying a burgandy velvet bag over his shoulder...filled full of sugared fruit! Another bag sits at his feet with more sugared fruit! I think Santa has been feeding all of my Christmas Woodlands birds!
*

*
And there you have it...a Christmas in the Woodlands tablescape!

  6. See, here's the thing...
I'm continually amazed at the way you can put such unique things and colors together, and it always looks just stunning.

Amber glasses. I wouldn't have thought of it. Sigh. If I step 2mm away from the primary colors on the color wheel, I go a little dingy.

This is beautiful. I had seen those bird plates somewhere. I remember wanting them but using my best will power.

    Beautiful, as always.

  9. Hello Chari~ what a whimsical, charming woodland setting. My sweet neighbor adores birds and has an array of feeders for our feathered friends. Your birdie plates would be something I would love to give her. I'm going to put a hunt out for that pattern.
I wished you could work your decorating magic in my home. We'll be cutting our Christmas tree from the backyard this weekend when my college boy is home. That's sure way to get us in a festive mood.
Do you like playing Christmas music while decorating? For me the music brings a wonderful sense of the season to the air, as does the aromas of baking.

It's good to be back, I hope you get a chance to stop by for a visit.

    Sweet wishes,
    Sara

  20. Well..Chari...I am..overwhelmed! AND I don't "overwhelm" easily. That birdhouse...oh dear..where can I find one? And if you tell me you did it yourself...well..then of course I would just have to try it! Now I can't wait for the sun to come up and for it to get light out side so I can get out the
SPRAY PAINT!! I love that birdhouse...
You have my favorite dishes also! I have always wanted those...sigh...
    Merry Christmas sweet friend!

  26. Chari, I LOVE decorating with natural and woodsy stuff for Christmas! Not only because it's alot less expensive but because it makes me feel a bit like a pioneer when I'm gathering branches and berries and fruit from my yard to create my decor, and also helps fill me to the true spirit of Christmas w/o all the commercialization.

Don't get me wrong though... I do love the shopping part too! LOL! Btw, How did I miss those beautiful placemats at the Dollar Tree??? Must have been sold out, but I will being going back to double check!!

You did such a beautiful job, as usual! Hope you have the happiest holiday with your cozy family gathering!

    Warm hugs, Sherri:)
