Hello my friends...Happy Memorial Day...

and welcome to the 57th run of "Sunday Favorites"!!!

I hope that you are having a wonderful Memorial Day weekend! It's a very busy weekend for many of us...a special time set apart to remember and honor the brave men and women who served in our armed forces and gave their lives for this great country! I am so very thankful for each and every one of them...as well as all those who have ever served in our armed forces! I pray on a daily basis for all the brave men and women who are continuing to serve this great country...asking the Lord to bless and keep them safe! It's a subject very near and dear to my heart...my oldest grandson Bud will be leaving for Air Force basic training the end of August. He will have just turned 18 when he enters basic training. I sure would appreciate your prayers for him!!! Memorial Day is also a time to remember all of our loved ones that have passed on as well! I am very blessed to have most of my family still living, however I have lost my grandparents. The post that I am resharing today for Sunday Favorites is about my dear sweet Grandma and Grandpa...I thought it befitting since it is Memorial Day weekend!

Well my friends, have a wonderful weekend and be safe!

My Grandma's China Hutch
*
Today I would like to show you my Grandma's china hutch! Recently we took a vacation down to Texas and I was able to bring home with me this treasured piece that belonged to my Grandma!
*
My Grandma and Grandpa were very simple people. They lived in a very small home and they didn't have much but they lived comfortably! My Grandpa gave this hutch to my Grandma as a gift for their 50th wedding anniversary! Ohhh...you should have seen the look on my Grandma's face when the furniture store truck came to deliver this...she was just beside herself with joy...and my Grandpa was so pleased with himself!!! It was priceless!!! I'll never forget that day...it is such a sweet memory for me! Now I have this sweet hutch in my home and whenever I look at it...I think of my Grandma and Grandpa and that special day!!!
*
*

"Before"
*
Here it is...my Grandma's china hutch! It's a small hutch and it fits perfectly in this little corner of my dining room!
*
*
Decorating My New Hutch....
*
*
*
I have a shelf up above my dining room window where I display a few of my ironstone and creamware pitchers. Since the hutch sits right next to this window...I thought it would look pretty to do a vignette on top of hutch...using items that were white!
*
*
*
I found this pretty iron birdcage at Hobby Lobby for 50% off...I paid $15.00 for it! It had a bronze finish which I liked, but I wanted white...so out came the can of spray paint! Hehe!
*
These two unfinished ceramic birds came from GW...they were marked down to $1 ea...I wasn't sure what I would do with them when I bought them...but now I know!!! The little white chickadee will look perfect nestled into the greenery that I purchased to add to the birdcage!
*
*

Voila!!! A vignette for the china hutch!!!
*
I used a silverware chest to place the birdcage on. The frenchy pitcher is a recent thrift store treasure find...ahhh, it will work perfectly for this vignette in white! On the opposite side, I placed a large pineapple finial...found it at Hobby Lobby for just $2.60...it was marked 90% off! It was gold...but not now...thanks to that can of white spray paint! Hehe!
*
*

I had so much fun filling up my new china hutch with dishes. Of course these were dishes that I already had! Since my dining room walls on this side of the room are olive green...I decided to put all of my dishes that are green and white in this cabinet!
*
*

The olive green transferware dishes are ironstone manufactured by Staffordshire...the pattern is Kensington Balmoral 1801. I also added my set of white ironstone called "Provencial", sage green everyday dishes from Walmart, and my new shell dishes called "Water" from JC Penneys to the hutch...and a few odds-n-ends pieces of ironstone!
*
*

Just a photo so you could see the shelf above the dining room window...a few of my ironstone and creamware pitchers! Wow...it was really raining out the day I took this photo! Hehe!
*
*
My dear sweet Grandma and me!
*

Well my friends...thank you so much for stopping by today! Please leave me a comment and let me know that you were here...I would love to visit with you!!!

Hi Chari! Such a lovely vignette! Love that photo of you and your grandmother. What a sweet dear lady she must have been. It is wonderful that you have her china hutch; not only is it a lovely piece, it's also very functional AND most importantly it holds special memories for you! Love the shelf above your window, and love the china in your hutch as well as your decor on top of it. It fits right in with your decorating theme! Beautiful hutch!

There is just nothing like a grandmother...except grandchildren. :-) I think God gives us another heart 'cause there's so much love for both!

I hope you have a blessed and relaxing weekend my friend. Your decorating is beautiful, as usual.

Miss visiting with you- it has been crazy here-funerals, overnight guests, getting ready for a camp-

How have you been feeling Chari? Hope the warmer weather is helping you as it does me!

What a wonderful post. First of all, a quick prayer and good luck to your grandson.

Your hutch is adorable and moreover, it's filled with such wonderful memories.Love the dishes! I have many peices around my Home that are filled with memories of my family. As I've said before, you don't need objects to invoke wonderful memories, but they sure help!

Happy Memorial Day and thank you for hosting Sunday favorites. I hope you'll come and join my party "Where do you keep it all?" on Tuesday.

I love favorite pieces that have a story. The story of your grandma's reaction when she got the gift from your grandpa is so sweet and it makes the hutch so much more valuable. So nice that you have the hutch and can hand down the story.

I loooooove this hutch--especially that it was your grandma's and that she got it for that oh so special 50th anniversary! It doesn't get much more special than that! And as always, you did a fabulous job with that vignette on top and all your pretty pieces inside it, too!!!

I pray that you are feeling blessed today/have a wonderful week!!

I know I already wrote here, but I couldn't help but stop by again and leave a little note of thanks. I got your comment on my latest post and then clicked on and saw that you had, indeed, read my other latest posts and commented with your always wonderful, always kind, always just amazing comments.
You are a fantastic designer and a fantastic person!
I know I've told you that, but I just wanted to tell you that again. Sometimes in the blog world everything looks perfect from the outside because we take photos at everything's best...but the truth is that this is a fallen world and we all go through things. My thing is a physical thing (or two) right now and I just haven't written about it...but your comments always cheer me up and I believe they do everyone with whom you come in contact. You have soooooo many followers because they love your talent and your heart. What a blessing you are! Please, if you have one of those hard days, know that you are loved and respected by me and by so many on the web. You are spreading beauty AND joy via your blog and comments.
MANY blessings to you and thank you as always,
Lana
