A Heart's Longing...Tea & Poetry

*

*
Hello my friends! I'm so happy that you came by for a visit today!!!
*
When I woke up on Sunday...looked out the window...this was what I saw! Ohhh yes...snow and more snow!!! I took this photo from my dining room window....brrr...it was too cold to go out for the picture! Hehe! I really do love winter, the beautiful snow, and the peaceful solice that it brings...
*
but...
*
enough is ENOUGH!!!
*
By the end of February, I begin to long for Spring!!!
*
I long for warmer days...
I long for the trees to be clothed in their luscious greens...
I long for the sight and scent of flowers...
Ahhhh....Spring!
*
I know that it must be near, but until that day...what is a girl to do?
*
Well...I threw another log on the fire and made a cup of hot tea!
*
*
Tea & Poetry....

*
A special treat...tea in a pretty china tea cup!
*
This pretty tea cup is from my late mother-in-law's set of china. The pattern is called Roselet and it's manufactured by Harmony House. I just love the delicate pink roses and pretty silver bands!
*
Ahhhh...roses! Pretty pink, spring time, roses!!!
*

*
I went in search of a good book to read while enjoying my cup of hot tea and found this lovely book, "The Country Flowers of a Victorian Lady" written by Fanny Robinson.
*

*
It is one of the most lovely books that I've ever seen...page after page of Victorian flowers and prose. Ohhh yes...this is exactly what I needed to dispell the cold and dreariness of the day!!!
*

*
Oooh...just look at these beautiful pink roses!!!
*
I found this sweet book while blog hopping one day. I do apologize for not remembering the sweet lady who shared this lovely book. As soon as I saw the fabulous artwork...I began my search. I found several copies at Amazon.com. This was a "delicately used" copy and cost only .27 cents! What a treasure find!!!
*

*
The Country Flowers of a Victorian Lady

A bit of information about this book from Amazon.com:

With its wealth of charming watercolors, poems, and notes on the language of flowers, The Country Flowers of a Victorian Lady is destined to be a coffee-table fixture in the home of any lover of old-fashioned flowers. Kept as a private family keepsake for several generations, this gorgeous book was originally created by Fanny Robinson, who lived a quiet English country life in the last half of the 19th century. The rich, creamy paper provides a perfect backdrop for Robinson's drawings, and for those who have difficulty reading ornate penmanship, her fanciful poetry is copied onto each painting's facing page in an easily readable typeface.
*
Fanny's exceptional book combines elegant watercolors with evocative poetry that is finely illuminated in the manner of a medieval Book of Hours. Using the symbolic Language of Flowers, she invests each flower grouping with subtle and often highly romantic meanings -- indeed, it is thought that the volume was intended as a lasting tribute to a lost lover.
*
Ohhhh...how romantic!!!
*

*
This book is a fabulous read! Fanny Robinson's watercolor florals and calligraphy is exceptionally beautiful and the poetry...exquisite!!! It was just what the day called for!
*
I enjoyed sipping my hot tea from this lovely china tea cup and while reading this exquisite book of poetry and flowers...

I crossed through that "day dream door" into Spring!!!

Lovely! I love the book and your pretty teacups! How I would love to hop on over and have a cup of hot tea with you. Alas, we are 1200 miles away so will just have to smile at your tablescape and your writing and make my own pot of tea.

Hi Chari! I cannot believe it is still snowing there. It looks lovely but looks very cold. Florida's just got the perfect weather right now. It's sunny and feels like in the low
70's. What a beautiful tea party vignette you got there. I love those cups and the silver set, so pretty! And of course you have a way of putting them together so nicely...Christine

What a pretty, pretty very cozy post...and as with many out there...your patience with Winter is waning. Understandable.
Here I am watching my tree's for first signs of Spring and yet the grass is growing like crazy, flowers are blooming and there are daffodils blooming in the back yard and even tons of petunia's from last SUMMER! NOT A BIT OF SNOW except on the distance mountains. I want snow..you want blooming flowers and green leaves.
:) Aren't we a pair?
Hugs,
Mona

What a lovely picture! We only had the snow for two days and I couldn't have handled much more. I get cabin fever really quick:) Love all of your pictures and that book is beautiful along with the cup! Have a blessed day!

Chari,
You take such pretty photos! Everyone of them is a masterpiece. Sounds like a delightful little book, I love books like that, too. Your snow is lovely, but disappointing when you are yearning for Spring, I know. I'm not even thinking about it, yet. My oldest daughter lives in North western Washington, she sent me photos today of her beautiful old weeping willow that is already showing sweet little green buds! So it is just right around the corner, my dear!
Hugs,
Cindy

What a beautiful post. Thank you for that marvelous poem. Yes, I too, long for spring, but when it springs comes, there is so much to do -- How will I continue my regular blogging schedule?

Wanda Lee said...

Dearest Cheri,

This is post is so 'utterly beautiful, poignant and deeply touching', really on so many levels, that I am truly "misty eyed" dear, sweet friend!..,

You always grace us with such beauty and artistry, that even I am at a loss for adequate words, to express the depth of the beauty that you regularly bestow on us dearest Cheri!~(And I guess for me, that's really saying something, as I'm seldom at 'a loss for words)!!.., He he..,

My that exquisite book, illustrated magnificently by Fannie; yes we all should own one, (and perhaps not surprisingly, I happily do)!..,

The lighting, the oh-so-artistically composed photo styling and the silver teapot along side the teacup is masterful Cheri! Even setting the mood ,juxtaposed alongside the dreaded; dare I say it "w" word of the snow outside the window, with 'Winter' still imposing it's presence on us! .., Yes it's indeed time for Spring isn't it!?

I hope that appointment went well today my dear!~ My oh my, the things we'd rather not do!~ (Especially we women)!~Oh well!..,

I have had a particualry trying tim e with all things computer as of late, yet surprisingl;y iI fell most joyful, full of thanks giving and incredibly thankful to the lord ` really!!..,

I wonder my dear if you would know how to rectify the dilemsa of Mr. Linky's Magical Widgets NOT recognizing and email,(MY EMAIL ADDRESS TO BE PRECISE), yet saying also that, The Plumed Pen account is taken, when I try in vain to set iup a new one?? I have put in an urgent "ticket/ request form help; I'll see if they can hopefully assist me. (That is exactly why my dear, I have not 'smartened up', so to speak, long ago and joined the rest of you intelligent fellow bloggers with the obvious use of Mr' Linky)!.., In essence because, heretofore,at least not for now, there is/ has been a; (no doubt simple), yet oh-so- frustrating technical glitch that I seemingly to date cannot override!..,

Any ideas? (I must admitt it is quite discouraging and exhausting on the one hand), yet I do remain thankful and hopeful overall!..,

Have a marvelous remainder of the day darling!..,

I'm off to post some lovely pictures after struggling all day!~ I'll then rest and brew some tea, play some uplifting instumental music, light a candle, get cosy by the fire and wish you could join me my dear friend!

Cheers and hugs from Wanda Lee @ The Plumed Pen

Hi Chari, I just wanted to follow up on a couple of questions. You asked if I'd had afternoon tea at the Fairmont Empress - no, I have not - I have been to the hotel and walked around...it's lovely. Also, regarding eating lavender: I grow it and I've experimented making lemon bars with lavender. I've also eaten baked goods with lavender when I had high tea in Charleston, SC, with Laura Wichman Hipp. Her photo in front of her lovely cottage is posted on an earlier blog entry of mine. She is a true Southern lady! Have a wonderful week, Chari!

Well hello there once again dearest Chari!

My, oh my, and then once more..,Oooh My!!

What a rediculous and exhausting day yesterday was for me Cheri!~I just have to go forth , have a giggle and thank God for the perspective of life's many blessings though, dear friend!

Thanks you so much my dear, sweet friend for visiting me at my blog a delightful, 'three times' in the past two days!~

Yes, we could have a marvelous time girl, if you ever do visit Nova Scotia; lots of laughs, sightseeing and good old fashioned, "chin wagging", (not to mention coffee and tea in the garden with lots of extra yummy treats)!~ He he!..,

I do hope your not too tired Cheri after a bout of insomnia!~Believe me, I do know what that's like!!.., {Perhaps some more freshly brewed coffee would help!!

~ (Believe it or not, I do enjoy coffee as much as I do tea)!..,In fact hubby and I go out for coffee,(and some tea occasionally), all the time!..,

Wow, that sleeplessness can be tough can't it? Especially if the old 'fibro aches' are kickin in!!..,

At long last, I have triumphed and have successfully been able to utilize the Mr. Linky widget!

~Yay!!!

I'd love to have you partake, if it's not too late Cheri;I'm not really sure how that is supposed to work though, because you alresdy have taken part!?..,Hehe,

~Oh well;I'll get the hang of it sooner or later!

I'll also re-post your lovely photo and link anyway!.., I'd love to have you as you mentioned, health and energy permitting, take part more often my friend!

I will also partake in Sunday favorite; can't wait!

I'm praying for your health sweetie, as I know all too well how chronic health difficulties can get any of us down sometimes!.., You are very cheerful though, I must say my dear!

God bless you and have a marvelous day!

Cheers and hugs from Wanda Lee @ The Plumed Pen
