A Winter's Decor at Happy To Design
*
Wow...I don't know about you but I've been a busy little bee lately! I think I finally have all the Christmas put away...and I have been busy cleaning, reorganizing, and redecortaing at my place! For me...it's always a bit sad when it comes time to take down all of the beautiful Christmas decor...I love Christmas!!! I just adore all the beautiful colors and textures of Christmas...and when they are gone...well, the house just feels sooo naked! So I have started to redecorate...filling my home with all the warm and cozy things that will "winterize" my home! Here in colorful Colorado...we are in for the "long haul" of things...as far as winter goes!!! I know that many people don't like winter but I really enjoy it! I love the snow...the warm, cozy days and nights by the fire...and I love the rich, deep colors that winter allows us to snuggle down into!!!
*
So on that note...I'd like to share with you what I've been doing in our dining room...to winterize it!
*
A Winter's Decor in our French Country Dining Room
*
January...A Time of Transition
*
I did say that I just hated to put away the Christmas decor...didn't I? Well, I find that January is kind of a time of transition and that I can leave out a little bit of the decor from Christmas. It's still winter and I think that all the beautiful pine boughs, pinecones, etc. is still very much appropriate for January!
*
The vignette that you see above can be found on my dining room buffet. I used this pretty "Silver Elegance" vignette for the dining room table centerpiece during the Christmas season!
*
*
Ohhh...I just love how the dark red looks with the silver! So rich and elegant...don't you think?
*
*
A remnant of a Christmas place setting.
*
As much as I love the deep red color with the silver, I decided to do something a little different...something that looked a little less Christmasy! So...away with the red...and in with the white!!! Oh yes...I changed the buffet vignette again! Hehe!
*
Silver & White Elegance...
*
My frenchy buffet...all decked out in silver and white...and ready for winter!
*
*
*
So what do you think? The silver and white really does remind me of a January's winter wonderland! Snow, ice crystals, and cold temperatures! I hope the deep red wall color and pretty rich colors of the buffet table runner warms it up just a bit! Hehe!
*
*
I have really been enjoying a few pieces of my silver!
*
I have had the silver candlesticks for a very long time. The silver soup tureen is a recent treasure find though...I found this pretty tureen at the Goodwill for just $19! Ohhh...you should have seen me doin' the "Happy Dance"! Hehe! It is in excellent condition...with the lid and even the ladle still intact! I just love the fabulous ornate design on the handles and feet...and around the rim of the tureen!!! What a great find for just $19!!! I love it!!!
*
*
I decided to change out the red berries from the first photos for these pretty winter white, pearl looking berries. I found these at Hobby Lobby over Christmas! I love how they look...nestled into the pine boughs! You can also see the tapestry table runner that I am using on the buffet in this photo.
*
*
New Treasure Finds...
*
I don't know about you but I always wait and do my shopping for Christmas decor after Christmas. I found these gorgeous mercury glass balls at Dillards in their "after Christmas" sale. They are really nice sized...measuring about 4 in. across and I love the beautiful rhinestone and pearl design!!! I only paid $1.50 each for these! Great price!!!
*
The beautiful rhinestones and pearl design on the mercury glass balls look so pretty with the winter white pearl berries...don't you think?
*
*
More treasure finds during the "after Christmas" sales...mercury glass finials! I found two of these beauties at Hobby Lobby after Christmas. They were marked down 80%...I gave only $3 each for them. They are nice and tall...one measures 12 in. and the other measures 14 in.
*
I love how they look mixed in with the silver candlesticks!!!
*
*
A Winter Wonderland on the Dining Room Table
*
More Winter White...
*
Ohhh...I am sooo enjoying my gift from
Sara at Sara's Sweet Surprise blog! I just love my really big
apothecary beverage jar!!! I decided to move it into the dining room and use it for my winter's table centerpiece.
I filled it with a few mercury glass ornaments in different sizes and shapes. These were also "after Christmas" sale finds from Hobby Lobby! I got great prices on all of these pretties...I only gave about .75 ea. for them! I love how they look in the apothecary jar...so silvery...so sparkly!!!
*The apothecary jar sits atop a silver tray...and I added my silver coffee pot to the mix. I actually polished up my coffee pot a bit...I really do like the patina of silver after it starts to tarnish a bit...but boy, of boy...it was nearly black with tarnish! Hehe!
*
*
*
A Winter's White Place Setting...
*
I also changed out the place setting...took away the red dinner plate...leaving just the silver and white! Just having a little fun! Hehe!
*
*
New White Dishes...
*
These pretty white porcelain dishes with the silver ring edgings are one of my Christmas gifts to myself. Hehe! I found them on ebay...9 - 10" plates for just .99 cents! Yep...you heard it right...just .99 cents for all nine plates! I had hoped to do an all white and silver tablescape for Christmas and ran out of time. Maybe I will do one for January...A Winter's White Table! Stay tuned...wink!
*
Silver Compote with Glass...
*
I love the silver compote dish with the glass domed cover! I used a pretty silver beaded rope tassel and a silver filigree ornament under the glass...so pretty!!!
*
*
And there you have it...A Winter's Decor in a French Country dining room!
*
Well my friends, I'm so glad that you came by for a visit today! Thank you for taking a peek at some of my new winter's decor. I hope to be posting more of my home's winter decor in the days to come! Hope you enjoyed some of my silver collection and my dining room!!! I would love for you to leave me a comment and let me know that you were here! I'd love to visit with you as well!!!
*
Have a fabulous Tuesday!

ReplyDeleteOh Chari. Everything is so beautiful and rich and lush looking. That tureen - wow. What a steal, too. I can never get enough of looking at your blog. Its better than any magazine I've ever seen. Rosie
ReplyDeleteChari, this is just gorgeous. I love it. All of your pretty silver is just to die for. I love that silver compote with the dome and your new dishes are stunning. What beautiful vignets. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteOh, I just adore all of your silver and mercury glass pieces! I've always thought it's difficult to find the perfect decor for January, but you've pulled it off beautifully. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteHi Chari-- Everything looks so elegant. Love all of the silver - I keep looking at it at the antique shows, shops, etc. Then, I think, I'm a fool as I probably have 20-30 pieces that we received for wedding presents in the 1950s - and they have been packed away under the guest bed for 40 years. I really am going to get them out one of these days and see what I really have. I know that some of them are sterling and are the same pattern as my sterling flatware. I, too, have been cleaning house, but not decorating much. Just getting ready for rotator cuff surgery on Jan. 20th. I won't be able to do much with my right arm for 4-6 weeks. Oh, well, guess I'll get caught up with my reading. It was warm here today, and it looks good for another week. Hope you are warm, too; but Mike says they still have a lot of snow on the ground. Take care, Sally
ReplyDeleteSo gorgeous! I love how you used the silver and white. Of all your wonderful finds the silver tureen is a big WOW! Love it all!!
ReplyDeleteChari...a fantastic potpourri of delights! I can just imagine the lovely holiday your ushered in... :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for allowing us to take a peek!
Okay, here is the deal. I will be coming out to Colorado next month to help my daughter-in-law and grandbabies move home to NC. While I am there, I want to visit you. BUT, soon after we greet each other with hugs and kisses, I would like for you to walk out of the room for just a few minutes. If you come back and see some of your lovelies are missing, it was just a coincidence. :-D
ReplyDeleteI could not even begin to tell you what my fave piece is. But, I am drawn to that beautiful placesetting with all those layers of lovely. I must seek and find a cloche like that. What a perfect size. Girl, I am just having silver envy right now. Thanks so much for joining in my very first Tabletop Tuesday. I just know you will be able to entertain us every week, and I look forward to it. Hugs, Barb
Chari,
ReplyDeleteYour side table is just gorgeous and appropriately named Silver Elegance! Your pieces are just beautiful! I love the covered dish in the center surrounded by those fantastic silver candlesticks. What a bargain you got on the mercury glass balls. Now I want to try to find some...I've been seeing them show up in so many places...but haven't purchased any yet. Have a great week! Sonia
This is just beyond gorgeous!! All the silver is just stunning! STUNNING I tell you!! I LOVE the plates you got on e-bay! WHAT A DEAL!!
ReplyDeleteI am seriously envious!! Seriously!
Lou Cinda
It's all very pretty! Love that shade of red combined with the silver! Wish I had a Hobby Lobby nearby, but it's probably good for my wallet that I don't! Enjoy the winter!
ReplyDeleteOkay, I am back...that soup tureen!! It is so beautiful!! Oh my gosh! LOVE IT!
ReplyDeleteLou Cinda

Love the silver candlesticks...it is gorgeous all together! I am in the process of TRYING to find some silver items....not too easy...
ReplyDeleteI think we have the same Tea service though...or very close!
Everything is beautiful! What a great job you did.
ReplyDeleteI can't get over what you found at Good Will. It's funny, there was a time when I couldn't give away silver pieces that were wedding presents. I'm glad I kept most of them because I have fallen in love with them again! Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteYour silver pieces are gorgeous! And you have arranged them all beautifully! Love the touches of white with the silver! Great vignette! ~Rhonda :)
ReplyDeleteHi Chari! Oh how I love your post. This is sooooo gorgeous. And I love how everything looks. I'm lovin' the silver too. The room is elegant, beautiful and just makes you want to see it up close for a better look. Love your great dishes....wow what a find! Have a great day.

ReplyDeleteChristi @ A Southern Life
This is lovely. And, I love your soup tureen. What a fantastic find.
ReplyDeleteChari! This all looks incredible. Your home is more and beautiful with each of my visits.
ReplyDeleteStay warm! ~Melissa :)
Wow it is all so amazingly beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI want to learn all your tricks, good thing I found you:)
You make me want to go on Ebay right now and get a good deal on plates too!
There is always so much to see here. One picture is prettier than the next.
ReplyDeleteI am always jealous of the deals you guys get in the US. Up here they mark something down 10% and they think they are doing you a huge favor.
Beautiful pictures. I am in love with silver and mercury glass these days. Your vignette is stunning the way you combined it all with the pinecones and greenery and white. --Delores
ReplyDeleteBonjour Chari,
ReplyDeleteHow do you do it, so beautiful. Your photos are so well done. Nothings wrong with a bit of Christmas.
Have a wonderful week!
Chari I love what you have done! THe silver is just gorgeous - wow what a find on the soup tureen!! And all those mercury ornaments you found so cheap!!! I didn't even get over to the big city yet since Christmas and know everything is gone by now.
ReplyDeleteI do love the little white berries with the greenery . THe red ones would look great to do something for Valentines. Noticed your ironstone pictures in the mirror reflection above the drapes. I am not sure I have seen those before- love it!
STill going very slow over here though I do hope to start tearing wallpaper off the dining room walls later this week. We have guests coming later this month so am not sure I am being smart about it as I know I will not have it done by them with our schedule.
blessings
mary
Chari,
ReplyDeleteI adore your decor!!! I'm loving all the silver. And such a deal on the plates from ebay. I'll bet the seller was crying over that sale. Take care & can't wait to see what else you have to share. This is my first time decorating for winter. I usually go straight from Christmas to Valentine's Day, but only because my Christmas decor is up until a week before. I'm doing much better this year on getting my Christmas put away.
Kim
This is just marvelous and your pictures are unbelievable. Your have really captured the feeling of Winter. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteToo much beauty, too much:) I love the silver and white all shiney and gorgeous! All of your winter decorations are soooooo pretty. I swear, you should go around and do this for others.... start with me:) hehe. Have a blessed day dear Chari! Big hugs from Georgia!
ReplyDeleteI love the silver and white. It's simply stunning together. Gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteChari... beautiful-beautiful... I think I'll just borrow a few of those lovely ideas... you know the silver/white combo is my favorite!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely stunning. What a great post with so many pics. I just adore that soup tureen. I never find great things like that.
ReplyDeleteMy family helped me take down decorations this year. Soooo every thing was taken down and put away. I should have insisted I do the garland and pinecones. I pray my husband labeled the boxes????
Blessings to you in 2010!
Hi Chari, I love the addition of the white and the white winterberries. It all looks like it could be dusted with snow at any given moment. Hugs Kathysue
ReplyDeleteThe silver and white looks very elegant, Chari. I love all your silver pieces and what a steal on that lovely tureen. Thanks for coming by and now to answer your questions. No, AJ has not see her bedroom redo yet. The Sevres urns are not new. I have 4 more smaller ones and I had them grouped before. We got them from an antique shop downtown about a year or so ago. Of course John buys them all cause he said it is very rare to find a group that are similar to each other. I might have shown the smaller ones here before. The cherub candlesticks holder are made in Italy by EuroMarchi s.r.l. (whatever that means). I found them on clearance for $6 a piece at Marshalls this past weekend in FL. Can you imagine how happy I was? I just know how much Italian pieces usually are having traveled to Europe a lot. They are pretty tall too. Hope you are keeping warm. It's so cold everywhere, even in FL. Our pool slide water is frozen and the bottom looks like a big glob of icycle....Christine
ReplyDeleteOMG Chari,
ReplyDeleteJust gorgeous! I am so in love with this, you have been a busy little bee my dear! The deals' you got are so good, and the E-Bay one is just unreal!!! What did you look under to find those amazing plates? I need to get over there more often. You have the talent my dear, you could do magazine spreads, but we are all so happy that you share your great ideas with us! Hugs my friend, Cindy
Very Pretty!! I have not been very creative since I put the Christmas decor away - I need to get busy.
ReplyDeleteAwesome! You certainly have out done yourself. I haven't had much time to creative or visit ....thanks for sharing your talent.
ReplyDeleteBarbara
Oh my goodness Chari! I can't imagine anything, any where more beautiful! The layering of the silver pieces..so utterly amazing! This alone would make the most lovely book.. I have been missing you! My computer quit working before Christmas and my boys both tried to fix it, but it wasn't to be.. I hated to give it up since Jeff had built it for me.. but I had to get a new one..my goodness sweetie, God is shinning through you. Love you sweetie. Cindy
ReplyDeleteDearest Cheri;
ReplyDeleteI have been "a little under the weather", and exceedingly busy, yet no worries. Thank God, I am fine!~ I just could hardly wait to get back to you though!..,
I always like "to block out" a special time in the mornings to get back to my dear blogging friends; yet I have mostly been busy running errands, (between quickie postings), for dear mama, since she has returned from her, month long holiday and Christmas vacation with my sisters and their families!~ (She arrived home last Thursday afternoon, and we've been running ever since)!..,
Yet at long last,here I am!..,Whe~hew!..,
Where to begin?~ I especially love that scripture from Psalms Cheri; it seems to be most befitting to your exquisite post!~ "A word aptly spoken, is like apples of gold, in pitchers of silver"..,
Don't you just love it?...~ It is so appropo your fabulous post this Tuesday, as well as appropo your kind hearted, "gift fom above", way with choice words my dearest friend!!
Especially since your illustrious and warm words were like "jewels" of encouragement to me personally!!~ (And to countless, precious others no doubt)!
Therefore my dear, I'll begin by saying a heartfelt thank-you dearest friend!!~
..,I knew I was going to make "a very special time" to sit down and just rest with my kitty and a cup of tea, specially to reply to one of the most beautiful comments that I have ever read!..,
How do you do it?!~ Each creation, whether a comment, a photographic vignette and masterpiece, your decoration skills par exellance and your fab ways with words!~ (I just bet you can cook fabulously well, as well)!!~He he!..,
Your dear comments reference my art were so humbling, touchingly poignant; so full of beauty , kindness, encouragement and delight, that it brought "tears of joy and deep gratitude for your preciousness, to my eyes" Cheri!
Just yesterday, I also experienced that magic with childlike wonderment; the breathtaking spectre of watching the snow, in full brilliant sun fall from the sky, as you say so poetically; "like so many glittery diamonds, falling from the heavens"!!..,
I immediately , naturally thought of your words and was once again deeply moved, yet this time with the warmth of your "oh so kind" comparison to my artwork! ~ I am honored and truly humbled!!..,
Before this comment is sooo long, "that it becomes a chapter in a book" my dear, I must also mention that I am utterly transfixed and thoroughly delighted by the singular beauty of your "winterizing" of your home and dining room!!..,
I was literally exclaiming aloud;
"Oh my"!~ "Oh My!!..."Oooh, oooh, oooh my"!!!..,I have yet to come down from that inspirational "high"!!..,What Unforgettable beauty!~ Oh the silver, the burgundy, the pearls, the candlesticks and the unparalled artistry!..,
Why, I have'nt engaged in "a silver polishing marathon" since my dear dad passed away suddenly , three years ago!~(As he and I would while away many a happy hour, laughing heartily and reminicsing as we polished silver together for my afternoon teas!~ Thanks to your inspiration Cheri, I think I shall!..,You've truly inspired me!
Take care sweetest friend! ~ (I'll try real hard not to wait a few days before I get back to you next time, I promise)!!~I was just sooo tired!..,
Blessings and hugs from, Wanda Lee, @ The Plumed Pen

I'm needing a beautiful silver tray or two or three badly... simply "gorgeous" my friend... I plan to polish mine up tomorrow and put together a vignette or two... hope this finds you doing well your way..
ReplyDeletemany hugs ~lynne~
absolutely stunning. I love tureens too...what a snag!
ReplyDeleteChari,
ReplyDeleteYou have been a busy lady!! I wish I had the energy and the talent you have. I enjoy your red dining room. I was a little unsure of my own red dining room and now I have lots of ideas and feel more confident. Thank you. Hope you are doing well.
Pam
Hi Chari,
ReplyDeleteI love it all-it is very elegant and rich looking!
Carolyn
Oh my goodness....stunning, lovely, beautiful. The silver candlesticks are fabulous...love the white with silver...love the plates and what a deal. I'm going back to look again...I'm gaining weight just looking at all this candy.
ReplyDeleteSTUNNING! I'm so glad I stumbled upon your delightful blog! I'm now a follower.
ReplyDeleteThis is ALL absolutely gorgeous!!! Love it, love it!! You certainly have the magic touch and so many greats to work with!
ReplyDeleteYou ask about the yellow luggage in my vignette - actually it isn't vintage, I bought it at Cracker Barrel a few years ago, so it is probably a copy of something, not sure what it was used for. They also had another unusual shaped piece that I didn't buy and I've regretted not getting it.
Love your blog! Can't wait to see what other vignettes and tablescapes you come up with!
Katherine
Simply beautiful Chari - your tablescapes and vignettes are so stunning! Love your silver and mercury pieces and love that pretty little cloche! Looks like your practicing early for Marty's party!
ReplyDeleteHave a good one -
Just lovely! You do have a lot of silver there...beautiful.
ReplyDeletePlease drop by for a visit. It is always fun to see another's style isn't it?

I see all of the wonderful, precious and loving comments "all 50 or so of them"; as a "true testiment" to your blogging friendshipa and amazing artistry my dear, (so please, PLEASE do not feel the need to comment per se)!!
~ You do have many precious other dear. dear freinds to respond to my dear friend, and I VERY MUCH RESPECT that my dear lady!..,Very much so!!..,

All of your silver pieces are beautiful...I am so envious of the tureen and the beautiful white dishes.
