Hello my friends!
Welcome to the 28th run of "Sunday Favorites"!!!
**
I hope that you're having a wonderful weekend! Wow...I am really enjoying this weekend! It's finally warmed up a bit and the sun is out in all of its glory! We had the first serious winter storm move into Colorful Colorado last Wednesday! Wednesday evening our area went into "Winter Storm Warning" mode and woweee...did we ever get it! They forcasted about 14" of snow for us, although we didn't get quite that much. By Thursday, we ended up under a "Blizzard Warning" due to the 30 to 40 mph winds. We had some pretty good sized snow drifts...enough that my honey couldn't get the truck out of the driveway for work on Friday! We just threw more wood on the fire and enjoyed a quiet day at home watching movies and eating homemade chili! Ohhh...that's just sooo much fun!!! Hehe!

Well my friends...Thank you so much for coming by today! Have a super Sunday!!!

Thank you, Beverly...for hosting Pink Saturday! You have made our little world so much prettier with all that beautiful pink!!!
A Special Pink Saturday Post Today!
Today is a special Pink Saturday post for me...in fact, today I am celebrating the gift that God gave to me...my Grandma!!! My Grandma was my "safe haven" while I was growing up...she was always there for me...no matter what...with that unconditional love that carried me through some rough times! She loved the Lord with all of her heart and truly was a saint of God!!! She was the most gentle, loving, and patient person that I have ever known...and I have always looked up to her as my example! I have always said that if I could be like anyone in this world...it would be my Grandma!!! She went on to be with the Lord last year....she was 92 years old! I miss her terribly but I know that I have the Lord's promise that I will see her again someday!!!
*
Last month we took a family vacation to Texas and while we were there my Mama gave me my Grandma's china hutch...I was able to bring it back to Colorado with me!!! I was so pleased and so very happy! It just means the world to me to have something that belonged to my Grandma!!! My Mama also gave me my Grandma's pink Depression Glass that she had bought during the Depression years...there are several really pretty pieces and again...I was just elated for this precious gift!!! *
*
*
So today...for Pink Saturday...I would like to share with you my pink Depression Glass that belonged to my dear, sweet Grandma!!!
My Treasured Pink Depression Glass...
*
I think everyone knows what Depression Glass is...it was glassware that was made during the years of the U.S. Great Depression! It comes in several colors...clear, green, amber, and pink (there may be a few other colors that I'm not aware of). *
*
*
What I didn't know....
*
is that there are several different patterns of the pink Depression Glass. I have several pieces with three different patterns!
*
Mayfair Pink "Open Rose" Depression Glass
*
Five - 9oz. flat tumblers and a 13 in. under platter.
*
This pretty pattern is called Mayfair Pink "Open Rose". This Depression glass was made by Anchor Hocking 1931 - 1937.
*
Besides the sentimental value of these pretty pieces...I feel very fortunate to have the tumblers! I checked with China at Replacements Ltd. and these little beauties sell for $53.99 each! Wowzer!!!
*
A close up...Ooooh...isn't this a pretty pattern with the all the beautiful roses?
Oval vegetable bowl (11 1/8")
A footed open sugar bowl...
A good close up for you to see this pretty Mayfair Pink "Open Rose" pattern!
A candy dish...
*
Ohhhh...wait...there's more!!!
*
A 13 in. oval platter...
*
This is a different pattern of the pink Depression Glass. This pattern is called "American Sweetheart"!!!
*
The "American Sweetheart" Pink Depression Glass was made by Macbeth-Evans in 1930-1936!
A 12 in. salver plate...

I think this may be my favorite pattern...I just love the beautiful scrolly design!!!
This beautiful pink Depression Glass platter came from my husband's side of the family! The pattern is called "Old Colony Lace"!
Just a pretty-n-pink photo!!!

This photo was taken at my Grandma's 90th birthday party...two years before she went to be with the Lord! Isn't she a beautiful lady?
*
Now...I have to tell you a funny story...or maybe it's not so funny! My Grandma kept all of these beautiful pink Depression glass pieces down in her and Grandpa's basement. I remember them well!!! You see...when my sister and I were little girls...Grandma would let us play house with this set of dishes! OMG...yes, it's absolutely true!!! Hard telling how many pieces that my sister broke (you noticed that I did not include myself in that...hehe!) I know that I couldn't have been any older than 5 and my sister was 3! Eeeekkkksss!!!
*
Can you believe it???
*
Anyways....thank you, Grandma...for my beautiful pink Depression Glass dishes!!! I love them and will always cherish them!!! I think of you every time I see them!!!
*

Well my friends...thank you so much for coming by today! Please leave me a comment and let me know that you were here...I would love to visit with you!!!

I love the pink dishes. Precious story about your Grandma. That just goes to show you that her love was so much greater for you than for her dishes. That's the kind of Grandma I want to be. When the kids are so much more important than things!! Thanks for sharing a special memory with us!
How wonderful to have had such a precious relationship with your grandma! Her pink depression glass puts a rosy glow on the Great Depression!
Oops, I posted the wrong Sunday Favorite (already did the oven braised pot roast). Is there any way you can remove it from Mr. Linky?
Now, on to your lovely collection of depression glass - wow!... and it's my favorite color too!! I found out you shouldn't keep pink depression glass in direct sunlight because that makes it turn from pink to peach. Just thought I'd pass that little tidbit along.
Take care!

Beautiful dishes and great that you have so many memories attached to them - even if some did get broken.:) Thanks for sharing again. This is my first attempt in participating - need to go back and reread how to link to the orig. post. :-) I will figure it out.
Thanks for hosting.

Thanks for the very nice message you left on Salty,Sweet, and Southern! I love your blog, it is beautiful! I look forwrad to visiting with you often! I noticed you were in education too! Happy Halloween!
These couldn't be any nicer even if they were $500 a piece. How terrible of your sister to break them. Now you know why you got them in the end. She obviously didn't deserve them did she? Lol.
Thanks for hosting. You were very lucky to know your grandmother.
Oh Chari, I remember this post so well. I remember thinking it's so wonderful to have that beautiful depression glass, but that it belonged to your dear grandmother makes it even more wonderful! I guess it's also wonderful that any of it survived you and your sister! It really is beautiful, and so are the stores of your grandmother. laurie
Hi Chari!
I love this post! Grandparents are the most precious gift we get. Mine are passed but, are with me everyday.
Your grandma was a doll! I love the pink dishes she had! I bet she is looking done thinking, "There's my Chari, still playing with thse pink dishes!"
I hope you and your hubby have a wonderful sunday!
Hugs,
Diann :)
I love all of your Depression Glass. I have a couple of pieces that my mom left me and I so treasure them also. Just fabulous pieces. All of yours are stunning. Hugs, Marty
Oh! I love your pink depression dishes! They're so much more precious knowing that they were your grandmother's!
your dishes are gorgeous. I remember this post...you are lucky to have such memories of your grandmother. I hope my grandchildren think so highly and sweetly of me!
Aren't grandma's wonderful? I went thrifting with my mom today and found a pink depression creamer and sugar bowl, but I didn't buy them. Now I wish I had. Love your set, thanks for sharing and thanks for hosting Sunday Favorites!
Hi Chari, I just found your blog from Diann at Thrifty Groove...my mom has a couple pieces of depression glass, and i believe my nana also had some..she passed away 10 years ago at the age of 94, she also let me play with her collection of miniatures, which I now have...that what grandma's do. thanks for sharing!

Hi Chari,
I miss you too girl!! I am still in Phoenix, but I leave tomorrow morn. To see some dorky pics of me head over to Marty's lovely blog. We had a fabulous time at the luncheon and boy did I have a surprise! Karen from Some Days are Diamonds drove all the way from LA, to join us! I also got to meet Linda T. who I knew in High School and hadn't seen in 30 years! It was such a great fabulous time and I so wish you could have been there too! When we flew out Wed. morning the plane was delayed from Msp because of the storms in the West. It looks like you really got hit with some major snow. Phoenix was only about 60 degrees and everyone was freezing here except Dan and I who thought it was beautiful weather. It warmed up to 82 today and tomorrow it will be mid eighties when we leave and only about 45 back in Wisc. Oh well, back to reality. I will talk to you more when I return. Hugs, Cindy
Love this story and the dishes. What a precious little Grandma, I just love that sweet face. I can hear the love for her in your words. Have a blessed day!
I remember this post - - - I thought the pink depression glass was pretty then, and I STILL think it's pretty now!
You have a wonderful collection of pink glass!! I have 4 "spooners" (I don't really know where that name came from- the lady at the store I bought them told me that's what they were)that I absolutely love. We make ice cream sundaes in them. Cracked me up that only your sis broke Grandma's dishes!
Heck, we never realize the value of things when we own them- it is only much later that we regret being careless with them. I could kick myself for some of the things I have done with my belongings! LOL
Have a great day. It's sunny and crisp here in OH today.
hugs, Sue
Me again. You asked where I get the dollhouse furniture. A lot of different places such as Hobby Builders Supply, Hobby Lobby, etc. - Where ever it was the cheapest. :) I started accumulating the minis in the late 70's, bought the house kit in the 80's, but did not put the house together until 90's. I was intimidated by it. :)
