Sunday Favorites
My favorite post: February 27, 2009 Hello my friends....welcome to "Show & Tell Friday"! This is my very first time to participate in this fun Friday event...and how great is it...to be able to show off your "treasure finds"! This fun Friday event is hosted by Kelli over at "There's No Place Like Home"....won't you go pay her a visit. She has some beautiful vintage linens that she is "showing and telling" about today! Also you will find a list of participants...Ohhh, what great fun!!! ********* At first thought, I was taken back to my younger grade school years when we had "Show & Tell"...do you remember those days? Hehe! I know, I know...for some of us...it's been a few years back!!! I remember the excitement of "Show & Tell" day at school...hunting around to find something that I could take and show off to my teacher and classmates! Many of you know, that I recently retired from working with special needs students at a public school. Our little rural school is pretty small with a student count of about 200 children...that's a total count for kindergarten through 12th grade. Our little school still has "Show & Tell" days for the younger grades and I just love it! I've seen some of our young students walk through the doors on "Show & Tell" day with anything ranging from a special toy to baby lambs, pigs, puppies & cats...hehe!!! The baby farm animals is a dead giveaway that we live in a rural farming community...hehe!!! ********* Well, without further ado....I present to you my latest "treasure find" for "Show & Tell Friday"! Kensington Staffordshire Ironstone Balmoral 1801 set of dishes! I found these little beauties on ebay...ahhhh, good ol' ebay!!! The listing was for a 20 piece set of Kensington Staffordshire Ironstone...not a complete set, however the lady selling these said that she had other pieces that had some minor damage to them and she would be happy to send all of them at no additional cost! The bid on the listing started at $10.00...I just couldn't believe it! Sooooo...I waited patiently....watched these pretty dishes for several days...and no one was bidding on them. I got the entire 32 piece set for just $10.00!!! Ohhh boy, you should have seen me doin' the Happy Dance! Hehe!!! I laid them all out on my dining room table so you could see....you can click on the photos to enlarge them!
Ooooh...just look at the pretty pattern on these dishes! So frenchy...I love them!!! You can see in the photo that my dining room is red...well, it's partially red...two of the walls are red. Last summer I painted the other two walls (which were white) the prettiest olive green color! I love the dark red and olive green together! Anyway...these pretty Kensington Staffordshire Ironstone dishes are the prettiest olive green color...they really do look pretty in my dining room!
Close-up of the dinner plates...
Close-up of the cups and saucers. I'm looking for at least one more cup...then I would have a complete place setting for four!!! I have been back to ebay, just to see if they have more pieces of this pattern...to no avail! In doing a little research, I have found that this same pattern can be found in blue. It would seem that the olive green is a bit more rare!
I even received some of the serving pieces...a platter and vegetable bowl. The platter has the most damage...a visible 4" crack that runs across the plate...but it's okay...I love it anyway! The other pieces that were damaged just have little chips on them...and they are all underneath the rims...not visible! The little creamer is in perfect condition! I have the lid to the sugar bowl...but no sugar bowl!
Just a photo of the centerpiece that sits on my dining room table. The cherub is masonary and quite heavy...I elevated him on a large gold candleholder and wrapped a pretty silver beaded rope with tassels around the base. The cherub is smelling a rose...ahhhh! The rose has been dried...it was my honey's bootineer when we were married!
The two urns are also masonary and are actually candleholders but I've place my pretty little iron birds atop them! I got great deals on the cherub and urns at Hobby Lobby...at the end of the garden season...they were marked 90% off...they were practically free! Yeeehawww!!!
I'm so glad that you stopped by for a visit today...thank you for letting me indulge in "Show & Tell" day....hehe!!! Don't forget to go over to Kelli's and see her pretty vintage linens...as well as pay the other participants a visit!

Now that was a good deal. The shipping alone to Canada would make it too much money no matter how good a deal you got.
Hope you are having a great camping trip. Thanks for hosting even from afar.
Hi Chari -- I am a dunce, and didn't change my "name" from Friday's listing on another meme, so it says "Sears Kit House" after my blog name, but it lies -- :-)
That was Friday's. Today is an April repeat. Oh well. That's what I get for doing this WAY too late at night!
Have a grand time away. That china is GORGEOUS. LOVE it. It would look great here, if you ever tire of it!

That was a great post, your ironstone is really pretty and you got alot of it. I used to have some ironstone almost identical to that, different picture on it. But the same shape to all of the plates and cups, etc. I gave it to my daughter. I loved it, too. hugs, Cindy S
Hi Chari....
Something seems very familiar about those dishes....I think they may have been the same pattern I had as a newlywed a gazillion years ago, except mine were blue. Yours are ever so much prettier. LOVE 'em.
Happy Sunday Hugs,
Spencer
Some of my favorite dishes ever! Chari they are just soooo grorgeous and the price! ~WOW!
Have fun on your trip my friend. ~Enjoy! Hurry back! ~Melissa :)
I will try and do this again this coming Sunday. I tried it once and made a mess! Your dishes are wonderful. It's really fun to go back and find a post you feel you did well. I don't have a buncha those...for sure! I constantly cringe when I finish one...and go back and read it.
Thanks for hosting this simple and easy Sunday event. (easy for most!) :)
Hi Sweetie! I've missed everybody! Even though I wasn't posting I was trying to keep up with everyone. We had to go to New Orleans last week for my aunt's funeral. She died very peacefully and without pain! She was a bigwig in the classical music genre down there and the funeral was beautiful! I was determined I was going to post something yesterday! I don't want to lose connections with my blogging friends! I remember this post and how "green" I was with envy! I never find bargains like that!!!! I love, love old Staffordshire! You are a treasured friend dearheart! Hope you're having a wonderful time on your camping trip!Be safe! Love Ya! Lauralu :)
Wow! Beautiful set of dishes and what a bargain! Thanks for sharing. I'm enjoying reading your posts and will be back for future ones.
