Be sure that when you're finished reading all about my latest project...that you'll go over and see what Susan has for you today...and while you're there you can check out all of the other Met Monday participants as well!

My Grandma's China Hutch
*
Today I would like to show you my Grandma's china hutch! Recently we took a vacation down to Texas and I was able to bring home with me this treasured piece that belonged to my Grandma!
*
My Grandma and Grandpa were very simple people. They lived in a very small home and they didn't have much but they lived comfortably! My Grandpa gave this hutch to my Grandma as a gift for their 50th wedding anniversary! Ohhh...you should have seen the look on my Grandma's face when the furniture store truck came to deliver this...she was just beside herself with joy...and my Grandpa was so pleased with himself!!! It was priceless!!! I'll never forget that day...it is such a sweet memory for me! Now I have this sweet hutch in my home and whenever I look at it...I think of my Grandma and Grandpa and that special day!!!
**
"Before"
*
Here it is...my Grandma's china hutch!
It's a small hutch and it fits perfectly in this little corner of my dining room!
*
*
Decorating My New Hutch....
*
*
*I have a shelf up above my dining room window where I display a few of my white ironstone and creamware pitchers. Since the hutch sits right next to this window...I thought it would look pretty to do a vignette on top of hutch...using items that were white!
*
*
I found this pretty iron birdcage at Hobby Lobby for 50% off...I paid $15.00 for it! It had a bronze finish which I liked, but I wanted white...so out came the can of spray paint! Hehe!
*
These two unfinished ceramic birds came from GW...they were marked down to $1 ea...I wasn't sure what I would do with them when I bought them...but now I know!!! The little white chickadee will look perfect nestled into the greenery that I purchased to add to the birdcage!
**
*
Voila!!! A vignette for the china hutch!!!
*
I used a silverware chest to place the birdcage on. The frenchy pitcher is a recent thrift store treasure find...it will work perfectly for this vignette in white! On the opposite side, I placed a large artichoke finial...found it at Hobby Lobby for just $2.60...it was marked 90% off! It was gold...but not now...thanks to that can of white spray paint! Hehe!
*
*
*
*
*
I had so much fun filling up my new china hutch with dishes. Of course these were dishes that I already had! Since my dining room walls on this side of the room are olive green...I decided to put all of my dishes that are green and white in this cabinet!
*
*
The olive green transferware dishes are ironstone manufactured by Staffordshire...the pattern is Kensington Balmoral 1801. I also added my set of white ironstone called "Provencal", sage green everyday dishes from Walmart, and my new shell dishes called "Water" from JC Penneys to the hutch...and a few odds-n-ends pieces of ironstone!
*
*
Just a photo so you could see the shelf above the dining room window and a few of my ironstone and creamware pitchers! Wow...it was really raining out the day I took this photo! Hehe!
*
*My dear sweet Grandma and me!
*
*
*Well my friends...thank you so much for stopping by today! Please leave me a comment and let me know that you were here...I would love to visit with you!!!
*
Love ya'll,
Chari

  10. Chari - love it and the way you decorated it! When I saw that can of spray paint on the table, I thought for a minute, you were going to pain that lovely piece of furniture. There are times to paint and times to refrain!! I'm so glad you didn't - it would have been a shame! I loved what you did paint though - it made such a difference.

Happy Monday - oh, and loved that picture of you and your grandma!

  11. Is that the same hutch that you and Grandma are sitting in front of? What a great picture to have to remind you of wonderful times. And, you decorated it up so nicely that I'm sure Grandma is proud. Sally

  14. Your grandparents would love what you have done with the hutch.
Very creative and also well thought out to connect the decorating with what was already there. The white ware and the paint color.

I am delighted that you visited and are following BCH.
I "followed" you back over here and I am so glad that I did.
Your grandmother's china cabinet looks totally at home with your beautiful china. (That Staffordshire is to-die-for!!)
You almost had me weeping before I finished reading.
    See ya soon.

  19. Chari, what a wonderful piece of furniture, but even better, how wonderful that you have the memory of your grandfather giving it to your grandmother. Your vignettes (inside and outside the hutch are wonderful). I'm really loving in three of those pillows that are your bench under the window. Everything looks so pretty!

  20. Chari, your hutch is beautiful, but the memory of your grandfather giving it to your grandmother make it even more beautiful. Your vignette on top looks so pretty, and all of your green and white inside is arranged beautifully. I am loving all 3 of those pillows on your bench under the window. That middle pillow (looks like needlepoint) is gorgeous! laurie
