What's On Your Wall Wednesday

"What's On Your Wall Wednesday"!

Hello my friends...it's time for "What's On Your Wall Wednesday"! I'm so glad that you dropped by for a visit!!!

This fun filled Wednesday meme is brought to us by our very own Barb over at Grits and Glamour. If you haven't ever been to Barb's place...you're really missing out! Why don't you "treat" yourself and go see what Barb has going on today! While you're there, you can check out all of the other "What's On Your Wall Wednesday" participants!!! Thank you Barb, for hosting this Wednesday event for us...sure is fun getting to share what we have on our walls!!!

My Living Room...

Today I would like to show you a wall that is in my living room. I have recently made some changes to this wall.

Here is a "Before" photo.

My New Gallery Wall Art Grouping...

I have always wanted to do a "Gallery" style wall art grouping in our living room! Recently we inherited some lovely old family treasures...many, many old family photos, portraits, art, and some gorgeous antique picture frames! Many of these treasures date back to the mid to late 1800's! I just feel so blessed to have these family treasures in our possession!

We have a nice sized wall space behind our comfy, big ol' overstuffed leather chairs. It's just perfect for doing a "Gallery" style wall art grouping and it gave us an opportunity to showcase some of our newly acquired family treasures!!!

Here is the "After" photo.

Okay...before we go any further...you have to promise me that you won't laugh!

Promise???

I'm not quite finished with this "Gallery" wall project and if you notice I have one piece...the picture of the Last Supper...that is hanging sideways. Let me explain...I just adore the frame on this picture and it goes perfectly with the other art in this wall grouping. I am looking for the perfect piece of art to put in this fabulous frame...I didn't want you to think that I was sacrilegious!!! I promise to hurry and get this changed...I know it's a little weird but I just didn't want to wait to post about my new "Gallery" wall art grouping! Hehe!!!

A mix of "Old & New"...

This wall grouping is a mix of "old & new" art. I'll explain as we go along!

This piece is a mix of "old & new". You may recognize this art from the "before" photo.

I just adore this pretty giclee print and wanted to use it again. Isn't it beautiful? (you really should enlarge this photo and look at the details!) The scenery is set on the steps of a palace...Oooh, just look at that beautiful peacock!!! Not only do I love the scene but I also just love the beautiful soft autumn colors. So perfect for our living room!!! I added a pretty tassel...done in the same colors as the peacock's tail feathers...just hanging it on the upper corner of the frame!

This fabulous frame is one of the family treasures that we inherited! The frame is an antique...it had a penciled in date of 1891 on the back of the frame! I believe that a portrait of my husband's great-grandparents was once housed in this fabulous frame! It's truly exquisite...the photo doesn't really do it justice!!!
*

More Bird Art...

I dug these two frames out of storage when I started planning the "Gallery" wall. I made the art!

I simply used a couple of pretty cards that had pictures of birds on them. I cut out the portion of the card that I wanted to use and burned the edges...giving it more of an old distressed look. Then I placed the card/bird over a piece of old "french writing" scrapbooking paper! I painted the mats brown, using a distressed looking paint effect! I was really pleased at how these turned out and I had lots of fun making them!!! Pretty art doesn't have to be expensive...the only cost was 2 cards and 1 sheet of scrapbooking paper!!!
*

Precious Family Photo...

I'd like to tell you a little about the piece at the very top of the "Gallery" wall...that beautiful piece in the oval frame!

This is a photo of my husband's great-grandparents and family! (You can see it a little better in the photo below) It was taken at the family's old homestead. The family is seated in the family car...an old, old car...we weren't sure what make and model it is. Russell's great-grandfather raised Percheron horses and was fairly wealthy. The old family homestead was a beautiful working horse ranch/farm. This photo was taken in the early 1900's...probably about 1907. (Russell's Grandfather Xavier had not been born yet and was not in the photo.)

What a treasure...I'm so happy to have this photo and just look at the beautiful ornate oval frame!!!

Wall shelves...

I added two wood wall shelves to round out and balance the wall art in this "Gallery" wall grouping. I found these pretty little ornate wood wall shelves on ebay....I got a deal on them...$15 for the pair!!!

Upper right corner shelf: I added a brass with olive green glass candleholder...a little moss with a decorative cast-iron bird to the top of the candleholder! I placed a decorative plate with a dark red rim behind the bird. The dark red on the rim of the plate ties in with some of the other dark reds in the wall grouping!

Lower left corner shelf: just added a couple of yellow-gold ceramic birds to the shelf.

And...VOILA!!!

There you have it...my new "Gallery" art wall!!!

I am really pleased with how this turned out...it fills the wall in nicely and adds so much more interest than what I had before!

********

Well my friends...I'm so happy that you came by for a visit today!!! Please leave me a comment and let me know that you were here...I love hearing from you and corresponding with you!!!

Have a wonderful "What's On Your Wall Wednesday"!!!

  1. I like the grouping. I'd like to see the Last Supper picture hanging right-side up - - - in that same spot, keeping your margins between it and the sconce above and the picture to the left uniform - - - like they are in the rest of the grouping.

I realize it would extend beyond the "box" of your gallery - - - but I think that would be OK. When I took a year book layout class they called that "bleeding" the picture - - - which mean extending it into the margin, and it was a recommended occasional layout method for flair.

  2. Mornin Chari! I agree with Keetha, the grouping would be fine with the Last Supper turned around! But this grouping of lovely old frames looks so beautiful. I'm so impressed with your card pictures, they turned out fabulous sweetie!! I love a gallery wall too and yours is perfect!
I'm so glad you'll be able to see your grandkids in June, I can imagine the pain not seeing them for months at a time. I am so blessed to live just 10 minutes from Amelia, plus help raise her! Her talking has been a little slow, but this week I can see she is trying so hard, and soon she will be talking up a storm! I can hardly wait LOL!!
Now about my header pic, the watermelon is made of fabric, its been stuffed and painted real prim! And the bowl has pomagranets in it. The kitchen cabinets aren't painted yet and neither is the pantry, I haven't decided on a paint color plus on my days off its just been to pretty out to be in painting! But.. I'll get to it soon! Well, you have a nice day sweetie, ok! TTYL oxxoxo

  7. That turned out wonderful. That frame the peacock is in is the most beautiful frame I've ever seen; and the peacock looks like it has always been in it. I'm anxiously awaiting to see what you do with the Last Supper picture. Have a glorious day. Sally

  10. Love your collection, Chari! I love the frame on that peacock one!

I love seeing groupings like that. It tells a story no matter how random it seems to be.

Now that I have more time to visit all, I can't wait to see what everyone's got line up for every meme!

  11. Thanks for your long comment on my blog. Don't feel like you HAVE to turn that picture, I'd just like to see how it looks turned - - - you might like it.

Oh my goodness!!! I can't believe it!!! I've worked at over 100 camps in my lifetime - - - until I returned to the classroom full time I felt that camps were my first calling!!!! I was the head counselor for our two teen camps for more years than I care to remember. I also traveled around the country a bit being the speaker for children's camps. I LOVED it. Haven't been doing it the past couple of years - - - teaching full time has sapped my creative energy.

I'm not naturally a gifted speller, but oh my goodness - - - spell check and google make it oh so easy, it's really a crime to send out work full of misspellings.

  13. I'm Baaaaaaaack!! LOL! I didn't make the watermelon, I bought it at a craft fair. But if I did make it I would use those little folkart craft paints you can buy at the craft stores.
We're rainy today but supposed to be 80 this weekend YAY! I like it warm but not hot and humid! I have not been diagnosed with fibromyalga but often think I have it. If I do yard work all day I can hardly walk by bedtime! I told Butch I cannot cut grass this summer, he'll have to buy a riding lawnmower. I enjoy mowing and have always done it, but the time constraints and this old body won't allow it anymore! Well I hope you are feeling well these days and can enjoy the spring warmth! Have a good one sweetie! xo

  18. Oooooooh, I love the peacock picture!!! And the frame. I'm in love!!! I love all your frames, but then I have a thing for old frames. Your little birdies turned out cute. The old family photo is cool too. I love everything about your grouping. Now fess up, how long did it take you? How many tries? It takes me about 100 tries to get things where I am happy with it (Ok, I lied, maybe more like 99 times). So far I have loved everything in your house. I'm sure I would feel right at home if I were to visit. Thanks for sharing.

  23. Chari,
Thanks so much for your kind words.
I do like to keep new things on my blog, so when you all come to visit you are not disappointed. Plus, I'm just having so much fun with all of my nests, and all the treasures.

I looked back at your toile post, and just loved those plates, and your chair find. Maybe i should be out shopping more, and crafting less? (well, maybe just shopping more!) =0-
Loved that little frame with the toile paper background too.
Great idea!!! I have some back fabric (not toile, but cool anyway). Maybe I'll try that. Oh, wonder what it would look like with a nest in a frame with my fabric.
Oh, there goes my creative mind again. =0))

    Blessings,
    Barbra Jean

You really are creative girlfriend! You've even given your blog a new look again! Well, I'm going to go check out your other post I missed! God Bless, Lauralu :)
