HELP!!! I need advice....

Hello friends....as most of you know....I've started a new project! My first "frenchy toile" room...my studio/office! And if you've followed my blog...you know that it was this beautiful china hutch that started the entire project. I have a dilemma though...the china hutch as it is presently isn't very "frenchy" styled...but that doesn't mean that I can't make it that way, right? Hehe!!! The first thing that I'd like to do to it is...take the little gold brass ornament off of the top of the hutch. I've searched ebay for wood appliques and have found a couple that I really like, however, I'm having a hard time deciding which one I like best. Soooo, I'm turning to you, my blog friends, for your advice!!! Below you will find photos of the two that I'm considering....take a peek and leave me a comment, okay? I sure would appreciate it!!!

Number One

This wood applique measures 16"x4"...so it would make a considerable impact on the decor of the hutch....what do you think?

Number Two

I also really like this one, in fact, I'm leaning toward purchasing this. If I got this one, I thought it might be pretty to put our family "letter L initial" in the center of the applique...there seems to be a perfect spot for it!!! This applique is a little larger than the last one...it measures 18"x5"!

Well my friends, I'm on a "time crunch" here...Number two applique goes out in less than 4 hrs....oh my, why do I always wait till the last minute to do this stuff...hehe!!! Also, see the 3 insets doors on the bottom of the hutch...not very "frenchy"....I'd like to do something with them...got any ideas???

Thank you so much for your help....please leave me a comment and tell me which one of the appliques that you think would look best....

Love ya'll,

Chari

Hi Chari.. I came running girl.. do you have the coffee on so I can stay awhile? lol.. I'm leaning towards the second one.. I like the way the oval will soften the harsh edge of the top of the hutch. Are you planning on painting the hutch a creamy white or leaving it as is? This is almost exactly what I'm looking for to put in the sunporch to house alot more of my china..lol.. I'll be looking forward to seeing what you decide and the rest of the room when it's put together.. I know it's going to be gorgeous..

I like both of them too, Chari, but just like you, I am leaning more towards the second one. I love medallions. But I am sure whichever one you pick will come out fab on the cabinet!..Christine

Hi Chari, I couldn't decide which I liked the best until you mentioned the "L" initial being used with the second! I LOVE that idea! Lowe's Home Improvement Stores carry these wood pieces also, if you have one nearby. They are the mouldings section. I can't remember how they compare in price to Ebay. I needed one for our front door back in November, and since I couldn't decide, so I ended up getting mine from Lowe's so I could try several and take back what I didn't want. (But ebay had a better selection.) Anyhow, I vote for the second one!

Can't wait to see the final project complete! That is a beautiful piece and is going to be a fine addition to your toile room! ~hugs, Rhonda :)

Hi Chari! Taking a break from trying to get the house back together after taking all the CHristmas decor down- Hope I am not too late!

I love both but I kindof think the second one looks a little more frenchy than the first- also love the idea of putting your initial in middle!!! I eyed that sweet bed frame of your- is that going back in the room?

Chari, I came right over. I am not sure beacuse I don't know the size of the space you're putting it in. I do love the idea of the inital.

As far as the bottom. I am going to have to give that some thought. The doors and hardware needs to be updated. Does anyone remember the bathroom vanity that looked a lot like this on RMS. They totally revamped it. It looked awesome. I can't remember who it belonged to.

Have you considered painting in using the process Picket uses on her kithen cabinets. I think to paint it and rub with with a stain to bring in more character would be awesome.

I'll give this more thought!!
Hugs, Terrie

Hi Chari...I think it is the second one for me. To me, the first one is still frenchy, but more rustic. You know who Terrie is talkning about with the frenchified bathroom cabinets...our very own Miss Cindy!!! Keep us posted on your decision...Debbie

Number Two! I looked at both before I read and number two I loved.
I hope I voted before time ran out.

Chari--- I vote for #2, also. It looks like it would fill the space nicely. Sally

Chari I love the second one also, it's shape seems to be made for the shape of the top of the crown. I love the idea of a monogram too. We actually took a composition shell and inset it into our crown in our bathroom. Using a router-type tool my hubby created the effect of the crown being carved out of the header. (Anyway that is the effect we were hoping for). This is such a fun project, I can't wait to see it filled with some of your beautiful things. Love ya Sis, Cindy

Number 2 for sure and the letter "L" would be perfect!! Just got home so I hope I'm not too late!!

I'll study on the hutch some more and get back with you but I like Gloria's idea of painting it and then a wash or glaze!!

Hi Chari,How fun for you a toile' room. What color of toile are you going to use?I can't wait to see the finished product.I like the first one becuase it is a little more simple and It is more in line with the simple lines and arch on the bottom doors.Knowing me I would probably not put any applique and just frenchify the inside.I know what ever you do it will be perfectly CHARI as it should be. Hugs to you Kathysue

I'm being out voted but I like the first one. I think the weight of it goes better with the size of your cabinet. Also, there is a woodworking store called Rockler that also carries those and may have even more choices - to confuse you even more....I like the idea of painting and glazing it. But my Dad would have a fit because you don't do that to good wood! ~ Robyn

Hello Chari, :)
I had to come by and say THANK YOU about the sweet compliment you paid me. You are so kind.
I really appreciate it.

Well girl was that not an amazing coincidence how we both typed the exact same thing at almost the exact same time last night.
I have to tell you I had no idea where I was going to put it.
It would go so well in your new toile room!
I can't wait to see the gorgeous results!

HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY MY FRIEND!

Chari - I've been thinking about the bottom doors of your hutch. How about if you got some beadboard or wainscotting to use as an overlay or insert and then get some type of thin trim or braid to go around that? You could then stain/paint/glaze it in whatever color you decide? That could be a simple fix without doing to much overhauling?
Just a thought?? Does that make sense?

I'm sure whatever you decide will look perfect in your new room.

What did you decide for the top by the way?

Hmmm Chari I just went in to DH's office and he has an old victorian cabinet with wire screening and fabric backing...Well I was thinking if you routed out the bottom pannels on your hutch and added the wire backing and some matching toile to your curtains it would look very frenchy! I'll send you pics of the cabinet if you want to see em. Vanna
