LAS VEGAS OR BUST!!!

*

*
Hello my friends...I hope that you're having a fabulous week!
*
Well...I just had to do one last post before leaving tomorrow! Yes...honey and I are off to Las Vegas, Nevada. It's our very first time to visit Las Vegas...we are both sooo excited! We will be there for a week...so this will be my last post until we return. Pray for a sweet and safe trip for us...please!
*
We began planning for this trip about 4 or 5 months ago. You see...my honey is a "car nut"! Hehe! He has always loved and worked rebuilding/restoring old cars. In fact, he rebuilt his very first car at the young age of 13...can you believe that? He's good...he's very good at it!!! In the ten years that we have been together, Russell has restored a 1970 RS Z28 camaro...a 1970 RS camaro...and now he has a 1971 SS RS camaro in the works! He loves camaros!!! He also loves taking his cars to the car shows...we go to several during the year. Which brings me to the "why's" of going to Las Vegas! We are going to Vegas to attend the "13th annual Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekend".
*
"13th Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekend"

*
Some of you might be asking...what is rockabilly? Hehe!
*
Well...I put together a little photo mosaic to show you what "rockabilly" is! It's about the music....it's about the people...it's about the cars! It's about the 1940's...1950's! I guess you could say it's an "attitude"! Hehe! I don't know...but it sure does sound fun!!! We are about to embark on an adventure...I think! I have looked at the photos of a few of the previous "Rockabilly Weekends" in Vegas. Many of the guys and gals even dress the part...the guys in their 50's styled garb...and the gals look like the "pin-up" girls of the 40's! Isn't that cool?
*
The "13th annual Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekend"
April 1 - 4, 2010
at The Orleans Hotel...Las Vegas, Nevada
*
There will be:
*
Concerts featuring Chuck Berry and Wanda Jackson.
50's Rockabilly music...about 50 different bands.
Vendors selling all that cool 40's and 50's stuff.
Jive dance classes and a Jive dance contest.
A "Guitar Geek" Show.
A Fashion Show.
The Tiki Pool Party.
*
and...
*
A big ol' Car Show!!!
*
The Orleans Hotel...Las Vegas

*

*
The "13th Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekend" is held at The Orleans Hotel.
*
We made our reservations months ago! I'm sooo excited...I have to tell ya...I have never stayed in a hotel of this size! Ohhh my goodness...this hotel has 10 restaurants! Not only that but it also has 20 movie theaters, a 70 lane bowling alley, a spa & fitness center, a beauty shop, shops, and of course...gaming! Okay...I know that you can tell by my "overwhelming sense of awe" that I'm just a little country girl...going to the big city! Yep...I admit to it!!! Hehe!
*
The Car Trip...

*

*
Yes...we're driving! Ohhh no, JoJo...no flying for us! Hehe! We are going to be driving from Colorado to Las Vegas, Nevada...in style!!!
*
We are making the road trip in our 1953 Ford Customline car! We are going all out...you do remember me saying that "Rockabilly" was all about the "attitude"! We will be taking a little "step back into time...the good ol' days...the 50's"!!! Ohhh...this is going to be sooo much fun!!!
*
1953 Ford Customline

*
Hehe...had to do a few "sepia" tone photos of our 1953 Ford Customline!
*
This beautiful car belonged to my late father-in-law. My husband and his Dad worked together restoring this little beauty! Hmmm...I did say little...didn't I? Really...it's a "big ol' boat of a car"! Roomy...comfortable!!! It holds many special memories for my husband...working with his Dad on his Ford!!! Russell will be displaying this car in the Car Show on Saturday!!!
*

*
Okay...I had to show you a "color" photo of the car!
*
This photo was taken near our home...I told you we lived out in the sticks!!! Not much around but "wide-open" country...farmland.
*
*
See this pretty lady...
This is my best friend Gloria from Happy To Be...

*
Now this is the best part about our little Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekend...
*
Gloria and her husband Len are meeting us in Vegas!!! Yeeehawwww!!! We have been planning and scheming for months now!!! I'm soooo excited that I can't hardly contain myself!!!
*
I met Gloria nearly three years ago on the website, "Rate My Space"! We hit it off from the very beginning...I just love this lady to pieces!!! Even though we've never met "face to face", Gloria is my bestest friend!!! And...we finally get to meet in person!!! Now Len, Gloria's husband, is a "car nut" just like my husband Russell. They're going to have the best time at that big ol' car show!!! Gloria and I plan on spending lots of time visiting, maybe do a little shopping...well, I think you get the picture!!!
*

*
Soooo...I wanted to do this post about our Vegas Rockabilly Weekend trip. I'll be gone all week and won't make it back home till mid-week...April 7th. Just didn't want you to worry or wonder what happened to me! Hehe! I'll let you know when we make it back home...and I'll also give you an update on my little grandson Seth's heart surgery (April 5th)! Please continue to pray for our precious little grandson Seth and his mama and daddy too! You can read more about that HERE.
*
I just wanted to say thank you...thank you...THANK YOU for all of your sweet notes and prayers for my two grandsons Seth and Bud!!! My dear sweet friends...you will never know just how much your kind words of encouragement and prayers mean to me and my family!!! You guys are the best!!! I just broke down and cried...reading all of those sweet, sweet notes!!! May the Lord bless you all and return that kindness to you and your families!!!
*

*
Warmest wishes...I'll see you April 7th!

PS...Just a little reminder! I have cancelled Sunday Favorites for April 4th...due to our trip and Easter Sunday. We will resume as usual on April 11th! Thank you, my friends!!!

Please Pray...

*

*
Hello my friends...I am coming to you today with a very serious request!
*
I am asking special prayers for my family...specifically, for two of my grandsons!
*
I am seeking the Lord for His divine intervention...I believe in the power of prayer!!! I know that many of you, dear friends, also believe! So I'm coming to you...humbly...asking for your help...for your prayers!
*
The Pearce Family

My youngest daughter Jenni and my five grandchildren!
*

Ahhhh...aren't those just the most precious grandbabies ever?
(from left to right: Ryan, Ethan, Erick, Seth, and Caylee)
*
Seth Nicolas Pearce

*
This is Seth Nicolas Pearce...Jenni and David's fouth born child. Seth is eight years old and will turn nine this May! I'm tellin' ya...he is such a precious little boy!!! Of course, I do realize that Grandma may be a bit partial! Hehe! He is such a smart little guy and sooo sweet! He usually ends up the "teacher's pet" because he is such a good boy and so helpful!!! I'm so proud of him and his mama and daddy for doing a fantastic job of raising him!!!
*
Seth was born with a condition called Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome. I had never heard of this condition until Seth was diagnosed with it. Wolff-Parkinson-White effects the heart...basically and in layman's terms...it is an electrical problem with the heart. Seth has really suffered with WPW. He really can't run and play hard...like most children his age because his little heart will just beat so fast that it causes him pain in his chest. His heart beats very, very fast. In fact, there have been times that his little heart was beating so fast that I couldn't even get a "reading" of heartbeats per minute. He will turn very pale and get blue around the lips when his heart really starts to beat fast...and recently he started experiencing pain down his arm, along with the chest pain! Of course, Jenni and David rushed him to the hospital immediately! That is so terrifying!!! Yes...my precious little Seth could have a heart attack...even at the young age of eight. The Drs. are very concerned!!!
*
There is a surgical procedure that they can do. The definitive treatment of WPW syndrome is a destruction of the abnormal electrical pathway by radiofrequency catheter ablation. What that means is that they can go into the effected area of the heart...by catheter...and fix it! If successful...the WPW is cured!!! Thank the Lord!!! Of course, every surgery has its risks...but this surgery since it is dealing with the heart...has even more!
*
The good news...Seth's WPW can be cured through this procedure!!! The bad news is...the Dr. said that the effected area is in the worst possible place that it can be! She is not sure that she will be able to get to it because there is a blood vessel there. However, because of the seriousness of Seth's condition...she highly recommends the surgery!
*
So...Seth will be going in for surgery on April 5th!
*
It is a five hour surgery...so much for such a little guy to go through!!! And of course, his mama and daddy...and me...are very concerned!!! My dear friends...please pray for Seth!!! There just aren't words to explain how grateful and appreciative that I would be...please, please...PLEASE PRAY!!! Thank you...thank you, dear friends!!!
*
Now for my second prayer request...
*
The Martinez Family

My oldest daughter Lisa, son-in-law Antonio, Antonio Jr., Alex, and Adam.
*
Antonio Jr.

*
This is my oldest and first born grandchild...Antonio Jr. He goes by Tony...and Grandma's nickname for him is "Bud"! I have always called him Bud...since the first day he was born. Hehe!
*
I love this photo of Bud...it was taken in our backyard about 5 yrs. ago...Bud was probably about 13 in this photo. We had an old dead tree stump...and the kids just loved climbing up in it to play! Hehe!
*
Bud is now 17 yrs. old and is a senior in high school. He will graduate in May and turn 18 in August. He is such a smart young man...I think that he has always made the A-B honor roll throughout his high school years. He is a very athletic young man. He has played baseball on the high school team for several years now! And..he likes to run! He is in track this year! I am sooo...so proud of him!!! He has such a sweet and tender heart...he loves the Lord and has a strong faith in God! With his great attitude and abilities, I just know that Bud will succeed in everything that he sets out to do!!!
*
Which leads me to announce...

*
Bud was sworn into the U.S. Air Force...March 26, 2010!!! This Grandma is just "beaming" with pride!!! Congratulations, Bud!!!
*
Of course, he will finish high school and graduate before going in for basic training. He placed so high on the Air Force tests that he can just about choose any occupation that he would like. He is interested in aircraft mechanics!
*

Antonio (Bud) Martinez Jr.
*
Just look at my handsome grandson!!! Don't you just love those smile dimples? Now, I know that he'll probably be embarrassed when he reads that! Sorry Bud...it's just a "Grandma's perrogative"! Hehe!
*
On Saturday, March 27, 2010...Bud was sworn into the Air Force (once again) at the Blue Angels Air Show in Kingsville, Texas. Isn't that awesome!!!
*
Please pray for my Bud...as he ventures out into the world...and for his success and safety when he enters the Air Force! I would sooo appreciate it!!!
*
Congratulations, Bud...you have made your Grandma so very proud!!!
*

*
Ohh...I just received this photo from my daughter. Bud with the Blue Angels after being sworn into the U.S. Air Force.
*
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
*
Well my friends...thank you so much for coming by today! I know that this was a lengthy and "wordy" post...but it was so important to me to ask for your prayers for my two grandchildren, Seth and Bud! I really do covet your prayers!!! You know...I am so thankful for each and every one of you...dear friends! I have never experienced such sweet camaraderie...sincere concern...and love...like I have received from you!!! I also pray for you...always praying for the Lord's blessings to you and your families!!!
*
I will give you an update on Seth's surgery just as soon as possible! Honey and I will be leaving for Las Vegas this Wednesday and won't return home until April 6th. Yes...I know, Seth's surgery is taking place while we are in Las Vegas. Please pray for me too...this Grandma will probably be on "pins and needles" till she gets that "good report" phone call!!!
*
Thank you, dear sweet friends!!!
It's Tablescape Thursday!!!
Hello my friends and welcome to "Tablescape Thursday"! Our Thursday tablescaping lalapalooza is hosted by dear, sweet Susan over at Between Naps On The Porch! This week, in light of the Easter holiday, my dining room table is decked out in all of it's Easter finery!!! I just can't wait to see what Susan does with her Easter holiday table...as well as all of the other "Tablescape Thursday" participants! I just know that we're all in for a real treat!!!
So let's get our Easter bonnets on and go pay Susan a visit...just click HERE and we'll head up the Easter Parade...follow me!!!
"Happy Resurrection Day"
Easter has always held such special meaning to me! I have often referred to Easter as Resurrection Day...so Happy Resurrection Day, my friends!!! While I love my bunnies, Easter eggs, and all of the pretty Spring finery that this time of the year brings...it's very important to me to recognize the real reason that we celebrate Easter...Jesus has risen from the grave, over death triumphant!!! He is alive...and I thank Him for paying the price, the ultimate sacrafice of giving His life...so that I might live!
We will be spending Easter Sunday with our children in church! We have much to celebrate this Sunday because our son Darrin (age 15) and our daughter Danielle (age 14) are going to be baptized!!! We are so thankful to God for our children and we're so very proud of them for making this decision to serve Jesus and follow His example through baptism!!!
On that note, it's going to be a very busy weekend for our family! I probably won't have a chance to post again till after the holiday! So I'm sending my very best Easter wishes to you and your families!!! May you each find the "abundant life" that our Lord has promised to us!!!
"Good Friday Brunch"
Because we will be out of town this weekend, I have made plans for a little "Good Friday Brunch! The dining room table has been set, my friends...would you like to join us? I'd be so happy to set another place at our table and add an egg or two to the omelets!
Dressing the Table...
*
I decided to layer two tablecloths. A green & white plaid (barkcloth) tablecloth goes on first...next, I added a smaller floral tablecloth that is in pretty pinks, buttery yellows, and yummy sagey greens! I placed them "corner to corner" on the table...a bit more informal with a cottage feel to it! I made these tablecloths several years ago and have always enjoyed using them during the Spring and Summer months!
*
*
The Centerpiece...
*
Some of you may recognize the centerpiece I am using for our "Good Friday Brunch"...I posted about it a few days ago! My large apothecary jar with bunny and eggs is the main attraction! If you would like to see more photos and read about how I put this little Spring vignette together...just click HERE! I have added a couple of different items to this centerpiece...a little green pitcher for juice and a small covered glass pedistal cake plate with a bird's nest so sweetly nestled inside!
*
Placemats...
*
When I was making the tablecloths...the green & white plaid and the floral pattern...I also made placemats to coordinate with the tablecloths. Wow...I really spent some time making these placemats...one side has the same floral print fabric as the smaller floral tablecloth, the other side (which you see pictured here) is another coordinating small plaid fabric! I made all of my own bindings that go around the placemats! I don't know if I've sewn that much since this little project...hehe!!! I just love mixing all of the different patterned fabric...plaids, florals, etc. It just feels so French Country to me!!!
*
*
The Place Setting...
*
The sagey green dinner plate comes from a set of dishes that I use for everyday use. I decided to use the salad/dessert plate from my Hallmark china called Rose Mist. As you can see, it has a pretty sagey green and pink plaid pattern around the edge...just perfect with the table linens! The pretty little green petal dish is actually a candleholder, however it's just the right size for a dish of berries for brunch!
*
I added a small glass for juice. These little glasses are very old and a gift from a friend! I also added a pink goblet for milk...my honey loves milk with all of his meals! hehe! These pretty pink goblets are also old and a gift from a friend...I wished I knew more about them!
*
The flatware belonged to my husband's family! They are so beautiful and have become one of my favorite to use! They're so frenchy!!!
*
A close-up of the salad/dessert plate from my Hallmark china "Rose Mist"...just look at that pretty pink rose in the center of the plate!
*
All the Details...
*
Well, they say that it's all in the details...all of the small "insignificant items" that by themselves may not be able to stand on their own...but when added into the "mix"...help to make a grand statement! I found these pretty little glittery eggs at Hobby Lobby...I only bought two but wished that I had purchased more now! Aren't they pretty with their cute little vintage Easter prints? This egg has a little girl holding a bunny!!!
*
Photobucket
*
This little vintage egg has two girls watching over a baby chick! Just look at their sweet little dresses! Each egg has a pretty off-white satin bow tied to the top!
*
*
*
The Cup....
*
How about a cup of freshly brewed coffee? Ohhh my, I must admit...I can't do without my coffee!!! This cup and saucer belong to the same sagey green set of dishes as the dinner plate that is used in this "Good Friday Brunch" tablescape! I bought this set at Walmart several years ago...they were very inexpensive but have been a good durable set!
*
Photobucket
*
The Napkin...
*
I have layered two napkins to get this pretty effect! The bottom napkin is a pretty light green damask...the top napkin matches the green & white plaid tablecloth! Ohhhh yes, I even made napkins to match this linen ensemble!
*
Photobucket
*
Napkin Rings...
* I found these cute little silver napkin rings on sale at Hobby Lobby! A set of four...each sports a different style of teapot...I just love them!!!
*
Photobucket
*
Just another peek at the tablescape centerpiece!
*
Photobucket
*
Just a peek at the little bunny plate that I've used in this centerpiece/vignette! It's all in the details...remember? Hehe!!! I have had this darling little bunny plate for so long that I can't remember where or when I got it! Old age...
*
A close-up of the small sagey green pitcher! I know that this type of glassware has a name but I don't know what! Maybe someone can enlighten me!
*
Photobucket
*
Centerpiece/Vignette...
*
* I used my large 20" apothecary jar filled with malted milk egg candy...little bunny with his pretty pink roses sits atop the eggs. I placed an ivy behind the apothecary jar for a little greenery. Added two mercury glass goblets, two silver candleholders with white candles, two (cast iron) birds, the bunny plate, and a covered pedistal cake dish with a sweet little bird's nest!
*
A close-up of the little bird's nest so sweetly nestled inside of the covered cake pedistal! I just love how this looks...tied a pretty blue gingham ribbon on the top...and VOILA!!!
*
Photobucket
*
Well my friends...there you have it...a table set for "Good Friday Brunch"! I'm just so happy that you decided to join us for a little food and fellowship while we celebrate that our Savour has risen...He's alive forever more!!!
*
Best wishes and many blessings during this Easter holiday!!! I will see you again next week! Thank you so much for coming by...please leave a comment and let me know you were here! I just love hearing from you!!!
PS...Don't forget: There will be no Sunday Favorites next week due to the fact that I won't be home (I'll be in Las Vegas) and it is Easter Sunday!
*
I sat this beautiful teacup pincushion on my dining room buffet. I just redecorated it for Spring...using that pretty yellow-green color that I call Spring green! I think the pretty pink and green teacup pincushion looks sooo pretty in this spot!!! It matches perfectly!!! Ohhh...do you see that beautiful pink carnation on the front of the teacup? It's absolutely gorgeous!!!
*
*
Ohhh...just look at that pretty lace and those gorgeous decorative pins! Cindy made the pins too! I love the little paper roses that she used as a decorative accent!!!
Cindy lives in the beautiful state of Wisconsin...land of the forests! Her fabulous cottage home is situated right in the middle of a forest! She is such a talented designer and crafter...as you can see!!!
*
My Victorian Tassel
*
Another one of my bestest friends is Gloria from Happy To Be! I first met Gloria when we were on Rate My Space, a website where you can showcase your home, that was nearly three years ago. Gloria and I hit it off from the very beginning. In fact, I call Gloria...Sis...because she is just like a sister to me! Gloria and I are finally going to meet! We are meeting next week in Las Vegas for 4 days! I'm sooo excited!!! We have already made a few plans of how we are going to "paint that town red"! Hehe!
*
Gloria crafted this fabulous Victorian tassel...just for me...and sent it to me for Christmas! It is hanging on the door of my china cabinet in my frenchy studio/office!
*
*
Isn't it fabulous? Now I have to tell you...I have a "thing" for pretty tassels and they can be found everywhere in my house...but this Victorian tassel is my favorite!!! Thank you, Sis!!!
*
*
Ohhh my...just look at the button-up Victorian shoe!
*
*
And...of course I had to show you a close-up of all the fabulous trim and ribbons that Gloria used in making this Victorian tassel! I love brown and aqua blue paired together! Ohhh...and just look at those fleur de lis on that one ribbon! Do you see the beautiful aqua blue jewel? Ohhh...this is sooo fancy!!!
*
I love, love, LOVE my Victorian tassel!!! Thank you, Sis!!!
*
Speaking of Victorian...
*
This is a Victorian lace tablecloth! I have it folded in half and draped over the back of my chair in my frenchy studio/office! I didn't want to fold it and get it wrinkled! Hehe! I have big plans for this fabulous lacy cloth...hmm, a tablescape? or perhaps a vignette?
*
Gloria gave this gorgeous Victorian tablecloth to me...a "just because"...gift! She knew that I had been searching for one...isn't she the best? Thank you, Sis!!! I just adore it!!!
*
*
A close-up so you can see the beautiful floral pattern in the lace! Ohhh...and I love, love, LOVE that long fringe!!!
*
I don't know if you have ever met Gloria over at Happy To Be, but she is such a dear lady and she has one of the most beautiful homes that I've ever seen!!! She has been a collector of antiques for many, many years and her home is filled with some of the finest that I've ever seen! Really...I just stand in awe! You'll have to just go and see for yourself!
*
*
The old vintage frame and photo behind the chair is of my husband's Grandfather when he was just a small boy. He is the little boy in the middle with the blonde curly hair! This was probably taken around 1920. The frame is very old as well...I think it's sooo pretty! We inherited all of these old family photos when my father-in-law passed away.
*
On the wall, to the left of the chair, I have a large decorative iron piece...with a candle and another tassel.
*
*
I decorated the pillar candle by wrapping a piece of scrapbook paper with French writing on it...around the candle. Then I tied a thin black ribbon and a piece of twine around the candle as well. On the front is a beautiful black vintage button and a piece of gold angel hair trim. These were gifts from another very dear blogging friend...Mary from Mary's Meanderings. She sent me an old iron crown...I should have taken photos of it...so sorry! Mary included the little button and trim in the package...I just loved it and decided to decorate the candle with it! Thank you sooo much Mary!!! You are such a sweetheart!!!
*
Mary has a beautiful old Victorian home that she and her husband are restoring. You just have to go by and see it...and tell Mary hello! She is the dearest, sweetest lady!!! I know that she would be delighted to have a visit from you!
*
*
These are a few of my favorite things!!!
*
